Cisco 8642HDC IR Sensor Problem

I have had the Whole Home DVR system installed - 3 Cisco 8642HDC boxes and the Cisco URC-8820 remotes.  You have to be exactly on point for the box IR sensor to pick up the signal.  Off by a degree or two and no response.  I also use a Logitech Harmony One (top-rated universal remote and it has the same problem.  I haven't seen anything in this form about my problem.  Cox Tech Support says nothing can be done and they do not have any IR extenders in our area (Las Vegas) so no help.  Given the extra cost of these boxes, it would seem they should be more user-friendly.  Any suggestions?

I know it sounds trivial and even if you don't think it will help I would try a fresh set of batteries.  Worst case is they don't work.  If that does not you are looking at your TV possibly giving of IR noise. Some searching I did of some other forums had other complaining about the same issue after they turn the TV on from any where between 5 and 40 minutes. Try searching for your model TV and see if anyone else has had that issue.  From what I have heard it is some times just a case issue and if you cover up the flaw in the case that causes the IR to escape you will correct the issue.

Did you ever get this resolved?  I had the same issue with my 8240 box a couple of years ago and got an IR extender and could work the tV box from almost anywhere in the house. That was with the silver remote. Now I have 8642 boxes and the 8820 remote. The same Ir extender works some of the time, but the box locks up almost every day and must be re-booted. I think there is a software issue with the box because sometimes it works perfect for a few days. Cisco makes an extender for the 8642 that i might buy to see if that works. Cox (Las Vegas) doesn't know about or supply them. Nice system when it works.
