Chromecast on Cox Wi-Fi?

I got Chromecast for Christmas and can't get it to connect to the Wi-Fi . We have a Cisco DPC3825 Wi-Fi modem, but it's not on the Chromecast's list of compatible routers. Is anyone getting this setup to work? If so, how? Was considering getting a new Wi-Fi modem. Google says a Netgear N900 is compatible with the Chromecast, and the Cox-approved Netgear CG4500BD is evidently an N900 router. Before I buy one, is anyone getting Chromecast to work with the CG4500BD? Or what Wi-Fi modem DOES work? Thanks!

Google's list is not all inclusive ... I have Chromecast working with my dlink router not included in the list.  What problem are you having?  What device are you using to setup your Chromecast?  Can you see your Chromecast device from the setup app?  Are you getting an error or just can't see your wifi network?  I don't have the same gateway so can't say for sure it works but it's worth some troubleshooting before buying a new unit.

Also, if you want to replace your gateway, don't limit yourself to all in one devices.  There are many more comparable routers than gateways.  Maybe separate modem & router would be better.

Thanks for your interest, Allen! I'm using my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7") to set up the Chromecast. I find the Chromecast just fine with my tablet, but when I am prompted to connect the Chromecast to the wireless network, I'm unable to. I enter the SSID and password, the Chromecast cranks for a while, then comes back saying it is unable to connect. I've tried switching from WEP to WPA to WPA2 (both AES and TKIP). I've tried enabling UPnP. My results are always the same. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I use wpa2 with AES so that should work.  Never use wep.  First the obvious:

How far is the chromecast from your router?  How is the signal strength?  "WiFi Analyzer" is a great free android app to measure wifi signal strength.

Make sure there is an available dhcp address for your chromecast.

If MAC filtering is enabled make sure your chromecast's MAC address is added to the table.

Perhaps distance is the issue. The TV with the Chromecast is about 40 feet from the wireless router, but our tablets, phones and Wii are able to connect just fine in that room. Will test the app you suggested to measure the signal strength tomorrow. Thanks again, Allen!

Well, everything is working fine this morning with no additional modifications. Not sure what happened. There are occasional buffering issues, but those would likely be solved by moving the wireless router closer to the TV/Chromecast.

Glad to hear all is working well, @PaulW.  The fact is started working and you have occasional buffering supports the fact it is signal strength.  Chromecast can be kind of picky with that.  If you can move the router closer or add a repeater that would help.  Have fun casting
