Channels in the 1100's don't work most of the time

Im having issues channels in the 1100 range. When I had a coble box they would say "Temporarily off the air" Now I have a cable card with a HDHomeRun and when viewing these channels they either say Service is Unavailable or No TV Signal or Weak TV Signal. Usually it happens at night a few days ago I was watching BBC America (1137) and in the middle of the show it just turned off and never came back. Some of the channels just look pixelated for a few seconds then say weak signal others never tune in. Right now channel 1130 seems to be the only channel in 1100 range I have tried that works 100%. This has been going on for well over a year first using a cable box and now using a cable card and HDHomeRun. I called and the person I was talking to said he cant connect to my cable card to check signals. I don't want to have to pay $75 for someone to come out here but would like to receive all the channels i'm paying for.

Sounds like you might be in Phoenix, AZ.

Most every HD channel above 1100 is a SDV channel that requires a Tuning Adapter.
So are most every SD channel above 100

1130 Hallmark HD is NOT a SDV channel. So that makes sense.

Do you have a Cisco Tuning Adapter?  if not you need one.

If you do have a Tuning Adapter, you need to reboot it about every 30 days, and look at the Tuning Adapter Status Menu for the FDC and RDC levels, you may have a very weak signal.

Here is my Cisco Tuning Adapter troubleshooting help page, it's not just TiVo specific and has extensive info.

Post how your Coax is distributed around the house and what splitters you are using and were located.

Posting the Signal levels from your Cable Modem and knowing your coax cabling could help diagnosis a signal issue.
Your Cable Modem Signals can be found here: http://192.168.100.1/

I am in AZ. I do have a tuning adapter. I didnt reboot it becuase when i first set it up it took many many hours to start working. I will reboot it now.

My 2 coax lines goes to a panel in my upstairs closet. 1 splits to my cable modem and phone modem. Both of them are in different rooms around the house. The other splits with a splitter in the panel and then runs to all the rooms for tv. The HD HomeRun is downstairs.

I found something that says FDC in the HDHomeRun page for the tuning adapter but couldnt find RDC

Edit: well I fixed the text wall, had to use html paragraph tags

You posted the "RF Statistic" menu
DAVIC: ?  (This should say Connected)
Status: Locked
Level: -10 dBmV (this is OK but very borderline low)

CURRENT QAM Freq: 687.000 MHz
Tuning Mode: QAM-256 Status: Locked
Level: -16 dBmV (this is way too low, the minimum is -10 to -15)

The first top menu item should be "Status Summary"  go to the 2nd page

RF PARAMETERS
Tuner: (a frequency)
FDC: 75.000 MHz
RDC: 16.250 MHz
Tuner:  Needs to be greater than -10dBmV closer to zero or greater is best
FDC:  Needs to be greater than -10dBmV closer to zero or greater is best
RDC: Needs to be greater than 30dBmV but less than 50dBmV

For your Cable Modem, Cox considers anything less than -10dBmV for a DOCSIS 3.0 Modem to be out of spec,

you are seeing -17dBmV

You need either a Cox Tech to troubleshoot why your signals are so low, or you need a Signal Amp if your cable runs are over 250 - 300 feet. from the drop.

And channels in 1100 still don't work after the tuning adapter reboot, but like I said they have worked in the past just not very often.

I have had an amp on the line in the past when I was having issues with my phone modem but it was later removed by another cox tech, this was many years ago

The RDC: 57 dBmV is way too high.

RDC is Return Data Channel, this is you requesting the SDV channel.

The greater the Attenuation Loss (resistance) the higher the RDC Power Level, and anything over about 50dBmV is most likely not even getting back to Cox to tell it to turn on that channel.

Also, I imagine at Tuner Levels of -15dBmV, you are seeing some or quite a bit of macroblocking and signal break-ups.

Would the signal amp fix these issue or make them worse? I know it would help in incoming signal that is currently negative but would it also boost the return or lower it?

Hi Jason,

I want you to be able to enjoy all the channels to which you subscribe! Since you are still missing channels, I suggest that we schedule a service call so an on-site tech can take a look at the signal levels getting to your house. Please email my team at Cox.Help@cox.com so we can set this up for you. Include your full name, address, and a link to this Forums thread in your email. We'll get this issue addressed for you!

The proper Amp would help with the Return also.

I would not do it yourself unless you understand RF signals, it could be as simple as a bad splitter, or some bad connectors, or your coax runs are too long.

Here in Phoenix the RF levels will swing as far as 5dB to 7dB from winter to summer, hot temps are going to decrease your levels even more, so now is the time to get it fixed.

I installed this Amp for my mother, she was having the same issues, and did not want Cox to come out, but I also knew her Coax was all good, and I replaced all her connectors, the Amp eliminated the 4-Way splitter.

Thanks, they gave me one for free in the past but another tech removed it later. I guess i would need 2 since the internet and tv are different lines comming in. I emailed them to make an appointment hopefully it will be free for them to fix it...
