Cannot watch HBO GO on Android Phone
I have a Samsung Galaxy S (model # SGH-T959V) with firmware version 2.2.1. When I go to HBO GO, select COX as my cable provider and enter my COX username and password, I then get the menu of shows to watch. I select one and IMMEDIATELY get this message:
HBO GOSM Error
Your session has timed out.
Please sign in again.
I've signed in at least 10 times, I've UNINSTALLED and re-installed the app at least 6 times. I pay for HBO through my cable provider, I feel I'm not able to use my subscription to it's fullest.
Any suggestions?? Thank-you for your time

As far as we know, the Samsung Galaxy S with Android v.2.2.1 is compatible with HBO GO as long as you're connected to a 3G network (or higher). I'm sorry you've had issues playing videos!
Before signing into the HBO GO app using your Cox Primary User ID and password, did you go through the initial registration on HBOgo.com? I believe you need to use your Cox Primary User ID and password to create an HBO GO identity before the app accepts your log-in.
Go to HBOgo.com and click on the "Sign Up" button. Once registered, launch the HBO GO app again and see if you still get the "Your session has timed out" error.

Thanks for the reply,
1) As far as we know, the Samsung Galaxy S with Android v.2.2.1 is compatible with HBO GO as long as you're connected to a 3G network (or higher). - I am, 4G most of the time or Wi-Fi
2) Before signing into the HBO GO app using your Cox Primary User ID and password, did you go through the initial registration on HBOgo.com? - Yes
3) Go to HBOgo.com and click on the "Sign Up" button. Once registered, launch the HBO GO app again and see if you still get the "Your session has timed out" error. - Same Error
I've been reading online and I'm going to try and upgrade my android OS from Froyo v.2.2.1 to Gingerbread v.2.3.6. However, when I see warnings like this, "DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU DAMAGE OR BRICK YOUR PHONE ...," it kind of scares me.
Looking at an earlier post, a comment or suggestion was made concerning this: "There have been issues with HBOGO's streaming in the last week though it appears to be up and down from their reports." Do you think this is the problem with my Android phone??
Any other suggestions before I try the upgrade to the OS??

Hi Fyreman, Since you are able to get videos to play through HBO GO on your laptop, we know that your Cox ID is authenticating correctly. We've seen the "Your session has timed out" error" before, but never immediately after log-in; and in most cases that error issue would have been resolved through the steps you've already taken. You can also email the HBO GO Tech Support Team at contactHBOGO@hbo.com. If you decide to email them, I'd suggest copying the entire text of this forum thread and paste it into your email; that way, you don't have to retype all the steps you've been through. Let us know if the HBO GO team is able to get the app working on your phone!

Becky, thanks for the reply. I already contacted HBO GO at the same time I contacted you. Below is their response back to me and my answer. They then replied back with the answer that is directly below this statement and my reply. Sorry if this is hard to follow but you can tell by my frustration this was starting to grate on me.
Your suggestion about contacting HBO GO was GREAT, however I was a step ahead of you and did that from the get go. Well I'll probably try to upgrade my phone and see what that does.

Followed directions EXACTLY as written. Did not help at all, same error as mentioned in my original email. Did a FACTORY RESET of my phone, wiped out all of my info, only installed HBO GO, I still get the error message as stated before. Need further assistance.

Hello, Thank you for your email. If you are experiencing issues with the HBO GO application on your Android device we suggest that you confirm your device is running the latest operating system, uninstall the HBO GO application, power cycle the device, reinstall the HBO GO application and retest video playback.
Please follow the steps below to uninstall and reinstall the application:
1. Go to Settings of the Android Device (Please ensure that you are in the device settings and not the application settings)
2. Go to Applications | Manage Applications | Application Manager (Please note: This may vary depending on the device and operating system)
3. Select HBO GO
4. Tap on Clear Data
5. Tap on Force Stop
6. Tap on Uninstall
7. Power Cycle the device
8. Go to Google Play and reinstall the HBO GO application
9. Retest video playback If you continue to experience issues we suggest restoring the device to the factory settings.
Thank you, The HBO GO Team

UPDATE: I did upgrade my android OS from Froyo v.2.2.1 to Gingerbread v.2.3.6. I now can get HBO GO- Hooray!! I will add one caveat, this is from EdwardH early in this thread, "There have been issues with HBOGO's streaming in the last week though it appears to be up and down from their reports."
So was it my phone and the upgrade or HBO GO having problems during this period of time? I wish I knew the answer. I will state my phone has a few new features and it appears to be a little faster (which was reported by people who also did the upgrade). So no matter what, the upgrade was the way to go. I guess you can mark this as solved.
