Cannot Delete Emails from Webmail

I recently set up a new computer with Windows Live Mail. I mistakenly set this account up as an IMAP servers. After I realized that was not going to work for me, I changed the account to a POP server. I can no longer delete any emails from the Webmail screen. When I try to delete an email, I just get this error message: "The message you requested is unavailable. It may already have been deleted or moved from this folder. " My email is just accumulating now beyond control and I cannot delete anything. Help! I see cox no longer has any live telephone support without paying like $50. What is with this? The chat support was useless and had no clue about the problem or how to fix it. I was on chat for 2 hours last night and had no one solution suggested. The telephone support is a useless recording that just states the obvious and is just a total waste of time. Help! Cox has really gone to the dogs!

Update: The problem is a COX WEBMAIL issue. COX has identified the problem and is working on the issue. It seems that the TRASH folder somehow got erased from the COX classic webmail server in my account. This folder cannot be restored by the user and it must be restored by COX technicians. With no TRASH folder, the "DELETE" command cannot be completed. "DELETE" is not really delete. "DELETE" really means MOVE THE FILE TO THE "TRASH" FOLDER. Since the trash folder is not there, the command cannot be completed. The error message is also not explaining the issue accurately and that is confusing. For work-arounds: 1) USE COX ENHANCED MAIL - you can select this version of COX WEBMAIL when you log in to webmail. 2) You can create a new folder in your classic webmail account. You cannot name it "TRASH". Name is something like "TRASH_BIN", you can move the emails into this folder to get them out of the way for now. Eventually, COX will fix the problem and then you can go back and delete the emails in this folder then. In the mean-time, you email account will just keep getting bigger and bigger, but hopefully COX will fix this soon.

I would suggest deleting the account from Outlook, or at least go offline mode. See if that fixes the issue. If disabling does, their is probably something wrong with the headers being stuck, and deleting and rebuilding the account should work. For more info, see first and last tip at this page.

Hi- I deleted the account from Windows Live Mail. I still cannot delete any emails from Cox Webmail. Error Message: "The message you requested is unavailable. It may already have been deleted or moved from this folder. " All emails are still showing on the Webmail screen. All is operating normally, except I cannot delete any emails from the Webmail screen. I can view the emails, but I cannot delete them.

Odd, never seen a problem like this before.Try changing the password? That will stop all clients from connecting, and if you still have a problem then there must be something wrong with the account itself IMO. You could try deleting the user all together and recreate the email, but that has minor risk of losing the email. Probably better for the Internet Test Desk to have a look first. I open the floor for other's inputs. This is a tough one.

In the process of trying many things, I have changed my cox email PW several times. Yes - I am afraid to delete my cox email account. It seems certain, that move would cause everything to be lost.

BTW: I have other cox email accounts...all works fine on those. I have tried deleting and changing the windows live mail account to IMAP and back to POP several times. I cannot delete the emails from the Cox server using any method. I can read the emails, I can download the emails, I can reply to the emails, etc...... I just cannot delete any email from the Cox server

A missing trash folder. I would have never thought of that. Great advice too. Thank you for the follow up. Sorry i wasn't able to help much.

Further update: As it turns out, there are some folders in Webmail which are set up automatically by COX. These folders are INBOX DRAFTS SENT MAIL SPAM TRASH. From webmail, you cannot rename, move or delete these folders. However, from Windows Live Mail, you are able to delete the folders. If these folders get deleted, Webmail will not be able to execute certain instructions. One of these is "DELETE"...which really means, move selected file to TRASH. In my case, COX restored my TRASH folder. I suspect that maybe I could have restored the TRASH folder from Windows Live Mail myself.
