Caller ID displays name, but not number
Just like the author of http://forums.cox.com/forum_home/phone_forum/f/6/t/3412.aspx, when I receive an incoming call, the caller's name, but not their number is displayed.
I tried rebooting my modem, but that didn't help.
Can someone here fix this?
Thanks in advance!

I doubt that it can be fixed to youre satisfaction because some callers have the ability to change the number at will. I read of one instance today where someone was called and when they checked to see the calling number, it was their own. They can mask calls and on your caller ID, Cox will give you the number the caller has faked, not the number you are paying to receive. I have an ongoing situation for about two months with one credit card company that calls about 3 time a day from numbers where they merely will change the area code or just add one or two numbers to the last four. What good is entering numbers on a "Do not call" list or a call rejection list when they can just fake a calling number and Cox will go along with them. If interested see my post of this date, "Cox phone service is not as advertised"! Many Cox customers are paying for call rejection and caller ID service that is not performing. Cox has bewen made aware of my situation and their only response is to tell me to go to the police! Good luck!

Thanks for reaching out to us through Cox Forums! I’m not sure that I have a great answer for you, unfortunately. Incoming Caller ID info is dependent on several factors, and is not something that Cox can completely control.
The Caller ID (CID) info displayed when you receive an incoming call is dependent on the type of phone system used to originate the call. If the call originates on a standard “plain old telephone” line (analog), the Caller ID is provided (if available) by the local switch and in most cases cannot be altered by the caller. (The caller may have and use the option to block his or her Caller ID info completely.)
If the call is placed using Voice Over Internet Protocol rather than through analog signal transmission, the caller may have the ability to alter the Caller ID information.
I believe that Caller ID information has become less and less reliable due to the increase in spoof technology. I’ve been getting harassed by one telemarketer for weeks, and every time this company calls, my cell phone caller ID displays a different phone number. This is Caller ID spoofing! Advances in technology only seem to make it easier for people to spoof their CID information, whether it is with malicious intent or not.

Thank you both, but I might've been unclear about the problem. It's not that incorrect information is coming up on the caller ID, it's that the caller's number never comes up (for any caller), even though their name comes up correctly.
For example, when my grandmother (who also uses Cox for phone service) calls, her name is displayed on our caller ID, but not her phone number. I understand that telemarketers can falsify their caller ID information, but I'm certain my grandmother isn't doing so.

It's odd you're receiving the Name Field but not the Number Field. Have you ever seen the complete Caller ID info (Name + Number) on your phone(s)?
Does the complete Caller ID info display on other devices, such as your TV Caller ID, TV Call History and your online call-history? If so, there may be a problem with your phone(s).
Do you...or your Automated Attendant...allow the phone to ring at least twice?
This is a stretch...but do you have a phone designed for another country? If so, there may be an option to detect Caller ID between the first and second ring (US style).
The fix for the conversation you referenced was to verify or correct the codes in the switching computer:
- SCWID (Spontaneous Call Waiting Identification)
- CNAMD (Calling Name Delivery)
- CND (Calling Number Delivery)
A moderator should initiate this verification.
When I had Caller ID issues, Cox Chesapeake recycled my occurrence. Huh? After we rebooted my equipment and disabled/enabled my Caller ID service, the tech removed my "occurrence and then reestablished it" to finally fix my Caller ID.
Please update us.

Thanks Bruce. Names and numbers do both show on the online call history. We don't have cable TV, so we don't have TV caller ID. We do let the phone ring twice, and the name appears between the first and second rings. I don't think our phones have ever shown the number of the caller, but we did just get an auto attendant to intercept telemarketing calls, and it has an option to either pass through the caller ID for incoming calls, or we can override it and make it display a different name and/or number for incoming calls.
Using that feature, our phones will display whatever name and number we program into the auto attendant, which is what tipped me off that our phones are capable of, and should be, displaying both the name and the number.
I'd really appreciate a moderator doing that verification of the switching computer codes.

Is your phone service the Starter package (Cox Digital Telephone Starter)? If so, it doesn't include caller ID.
If you connect your phone without the Interceptor, will complete caller ID info display on your phone?
What's the make/model of your Interceptor? Perhaps you need to update its firmware due to a glitch.
I don't understand the override feature of your Interceptor. Why would you override the name and/or number of an incoming call? Would you override all calls or just selected calls, such as "Granny" to replace "Moses, Daisy May?"

Our Cox bill says we have "Basic Monthly Service". I wasn't able to find a description of what this includes, neither on the bill nor on the website. My recollection from when we signed up is that Caller ID and call waiting were included, but I could be wrong.
The interceptor is an Obi-110 paired with RasPBX (Asterisk). Rewriting the incoming caller ID is something that it can do conditionally (like changing "Cell Phone RI" to "David's Cell"). I (just briefly for testing), used it to change the incoming number for all calls to "1", to prove to myself that our phones are capable of receiving and displaying the caller's number.
With the interceptor connected or disconnected, the result is the same -- we get the caller's name, but not their number.
If our phone service doesn't include caller ID, why would we be receiving the caller's name?

With the Obi-110 and RasPBX disconnected...meaning your phone is only connected to your telephone modem either directly or through a wall jack...the caller ID information just contains the number. Correct?
If so, keep these components disconnected while troubleshooting.
You can reset your telephone modem. There's a recessed button on the back of the modem. It's recessed to prevent you from accidentally pressing it.
Call Cox to verify your codes in the switching computer.
Call Cox to remove and reestablish your occurrence. Whatever that means. The tech couldn't explain it beyond calling it an occurrence. It must be a button in their software.
If you're receiving partial caller ID data, you probably have the service in your package. It's just odd you're only receiving the name and not the number.
Caller ID is delivered to you in one of two formats: SDMF or MDMF.
- SDMF contains Date, Time and Calling Number.
- MDMF contains Date, Time, Calling Number and Calling Name.
- No format eliminates the Calling Number, which makes this odd.
Fix this with Cox first...then reconnect your auto-attendant equipment.

So that we can review the services on the back end, can you send us an email to cox.help@cox.com? Please be sure to include your full name, service address, and the four digit Cox PIN (located on page 1 of your bill under the account number).

Thanks for looking into it Renee!
I sent the email you requested, KMM17691097V57622L0KM was the number referenced in the auto-reply, if that helps.
