CableCARD with Sony Bravia TV
I have the TV Essentials package (analog only). Because of the Cox transition to digital only, I picked up a CableCARD and MiniBox today. I installed the cablecard into my Sony Bravia TV KDL-V40XBR1 (purchased 2006). The TV does not support a connection to a tuning adapter and I've been told that my channel lineup doesn't use SDV in Hampton Roads.
After a few calls to very friendly and helpful customer support people (Brittney and Keegan) the card was paired using the Card Id, Host Id and Data numbers. The support rep was able to reset the card remotely, etc... However, when I try to access any of the channels, the TV reports either "No signal" or "Not Authorized". The TV on-screen cablecard status page titled "Conditional Access" has a field that says "Auth: ?" - (which may/may not be meaningful)
Before starting another phone call, is there perhaps something with my account that needs to be updated?
(The MiniBox works just fine by the way.)
Thanks!

Your TV is fairly old, for a CableCARD device, it may not have firmware that is currently supported.
But, It may work just fine.
Here is a picture and Guide for what the Motorola CableCARD screen should look like:

Make sure to Call 877-820-8202, that is the best number for Cox CableCARD Pairing.

Does the Mini box work on the same outlet as the TV with cable card is using?
Also, what do the cablecard diagnostics say? Wega Gate > Settings > Applications > CableCard or see page 91 of manual. A picture of the screen might be easist if possible.
Also, you might want to check if a firmware update is available. Here says there is one, but points to www.sony.ca/gw_update which is a dead link for me.

Thanks for the link, the description of the fields and values was really helpful. According to that link, the Auth field should be an "S". On my system Auth is "?". The CCI field is "0x00 ?" The other highlighted fields look good: "Con: Y", "Val: V"
The Network Status page shows it's receiving packets (numbers changing).
I took photos of all the status pages for future reference.

Thank you for the links. The Mini box works from the same outlet. All my internal wiring is RG6QS (I made/ran it and CAT5e myself. The run to the house was just replaced by Cox with RG11. The DS signal strength at my cable/phone modem is about 0.0 (after going through a 2-way splitter) and all the other number are good.
I actually do still have the manual that you referenced :-) My TV was manufactured in Mexico in Nov 2005 and the firmware update on the other link doesn't seem to apply - but I read through the thread to be sure.
Looking at the diag screens, it looks like an auth issue - noted in another post reply. The card seems to be receiving data.

Basically when you pair a cable card, you kind of like taking two parts of a key and saving it in the lock. One half is from the cablecard while the other is from the TV. Once the cablecard gets the signal and decrypts it, it has to then pass it into the TV tuner for the other part of the key. This part is built by the TV manufacture and each one does it a little different. If the TV card can't negotiate with the tuner, you don't get a picture. I think that is why the card says getting signal, but the "access" is still "authorizing". My guess is either the cable card info isn't correct in Cox system, or its a TV firmware issue.

Thanks for the CableCARD refresher. I've read up on them some, but not all the tech details.
As the issue isn't urgent, I sent Cox help an email, using their web form a few hours ago, describing the problem, techs that have already looked at it, an offer to provide screenshots, etc. I can't remember if I'm suppose to get an auto reply, but, if so, haven't yet. I too think the issue may be at the head end and they can check into it as time permits.
If this ultimately won't work, I have options, like the Mini Box and/or HD receiver, and dealing with a CableCARD is good exposure as I'm trying to decide whether to get a Cox DVR or Tivo (which uses a CC). I'm currently using the MythTV box (w/2 capture cards) I built in 2007 (which I love), but it's only analog. I don't really (or shouldn't) watch that much TV so I suppose I could always ditch TV and go Hulu, Netflix, etc... I already have Amazon Prime.
Thank you again for your help.

Thank you Tiffany, I will.
Do you know if I was suppose to receive an auto-reply/acknowledge from that form submission, or am I imagining that? :-) Either way, if I don't hear back from that in a day or two, I'll re-submit using the email address you included.
I know it's a small (but vexing) issue, but if it can be made to work (which it seems it should) that would be great, else on to Plan B !
Thanks again to all that have helped.

I'm not sure if you receive an auto reply for the online form submission, but if you'd like to email our group, feel free to reach us at the cox.help@cox.com.
Thank you,
