cable modem setup -- am I required to give COX mac address and serial number of cable modem
Am I required to give COX mac address and serial number of cable modem prior to connecting it? The Cisco cable modem DPC 3010 that I just got says that is the case in their manual.
Please let me know.

Yes. It won't work until you call Cox and give them the Model number, Serial number, and customer MAC address. This could be done with the automated system by connecting direct to the modem and going through the self registration system, but then you will need more info like your account number.
