Cable box ...

I just recently got a cable box and tried hooking up my RCA Blu-ray Disc player to it but was unable to access the internet with it. I've tried doing an Auto connect setting for the network and also tried entering the IP address manually, both ways failed to connect. Does anyone know if there is anything else I need to do to get access to the internet through my Blu-ray player?

Hi TiffanyR, I don't have a wireless network. The error I get is a failed connection to the internet when I try to select Netflix or YouTube from my RCA Blu-ray player. I thought I could just hook up my Blu-ray to the cable box via an Ethernet jack on the back of the cable box and have access to the internet. Before I got the cable box I was going to run an 100 foot Ethernet cable from the room that has the router to the Blu-ray player in the living room. I guess that the Ethernet jack that's on the back of the cable box is used for something other than hooking up a Blu-ray player. Thank you for your reply.

you will have the run the Ethernet cable the cable boxes do not provide inter even though the have the Ethernet port.

OOooh. Now I understand. I was confused for a moment there. The ethernet jack is there because the box was made to be used by cable providers all the over the world, some who use ethernet instead of cable, and others that network together for media or whole DVR function. But Cox does everything over the cable line to keep it simple.Thats also why the USB ports don't work either.

From you other post you said you have DSL. Do you have a wireless router with them? If so you would want to call them and ask how to connect your blu-ray to it. Or the manafacture of the router.

Otherwise I would need to know the exact model number of the Blu-ray and DSL gateway.

Hi Health Edge, Thank you for answering my question, now I know what I need to do. And I do have internet with cox, my modem and router are hard wired. I'm still running old school tec. ;-) I'm just going to do what I was planning on doing before I got the cable box and run an 100 foot Ethernet cable from my router in the other room to my RCA Blu-Ray Disc player in the living room so I can take advantage of the internet features my Blu-Ray player has. Thank you again for your help.
