Cable Box says signal output is 1080i how can I verify this is true?

Is there a devise out on the market that one can get that will test the signal output source coming from your cable box to TV (lets say the box says it's 1080i) so you know the signal going to the TV is truly 1080i?

Which Box do you have? If your using HDMI, and if both devices are HDCP compatible, then it should be automatic. What is it that your trying to do. Hook it up to a entertainment system?

I have a Scientific Atlanta Exployer 8240HD box and I have connected the box to my TV using a HDMI cable.  What I want to find out is how can I verify if the cable box says (example 1080i or 720p) that its truly that signal coming out of the box.  Just because it says it is does not mean it really is.

Why do you doubt it? I don't understand. The resolution output should display on the front LED as per page 2 of manual.

The TV should also detect the resolution of the input as well. Perhaps there is a info or display button on your TV remote.

I’m just that kind of person, if something is said to be, like a cable box saying the output is 1080i or 720P, I'd like to be able to verify this is the case, is there a devise to measure this?  I'd also like to know if your TV manufacture says the refresh rate is 120Hz how do you verify that the TV in fact is refreshing at that rate.

My 9-year old Sony HDTV tells me if an incoming signal is 1080i, 720p, etc. Does yours? I know of no aftermarket device that will accomplish that task.

Whose manufacture? What kind of TV do you have? And that would have nothing to do with Cox.Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I have a new Sharp 60" Aquos LC-60LE450 and when I change stations the TV diplays the signal info on the upper right hand corner.  Thanks for answering my question, there is no device that a consumer can use to verify what the signal strength is coming out of my cable box.

Now I'm confused. At first you were asking about the output resolution. Now you want to know about signal strength? That's an input issue.

Sorry for the confusion, was talking about output resolution in this case.  Still pretty much a beginner when it comes to this technology, just trying to understand things and how they work and how it’s measured so I know that I am getting what I am paying for.
