Cable Box out of sight

Does the cable box always need to be in view of the remote in order to work properly? I would like to place the cable box itself behind a cabinet door so it is not visible in our living room TV viewing area. Any ideas on how to make this work? Thanks.

The remote uses infrared so it does require a line of sight in order to work correctly.  There are remote control extenders available from home theater supply stores that might be able to do what you're doing.  Notes that if you put the box in an enclosure of some kind that it will need adequate ventilation so that it won't overheat.

Al Cat, Which cable box are you using? Be careful. Newer Cisco boxes use 57KHz IR modulation rather than the older 38KHz modulation.
