Best Cox-provided EMTA modem for phone service?

My relatives who are retired, currently have a Cox-provided DOCSIS 2.0 EMTA cable modem (for Cox phone service) by Arris, are looking to exchange it for a DOCSIS 3.0 EMTA modem.  Though not able to support the higher speeds available through 8x4 channel bonding, the Arris appears to have provided rock-solid connectivity over the years.  We currently have a Cisco DPQ3212C EMTA modem and from time to time it has required a reset.

What's the best EMTA modem that Cox currently has to offer in terms of providing solid connectivity for Internet and Phone service? Thanks.

The Cisco 3212 is currently the DOCSIS 3.0 device offered for this type of setup.  I wonder if in your case it's just a matter of bad luck or you have some other issue going on.

Hello Chris:

Thanks for replying.  Approximately 2 years ago, we had a new dedicated run installed from the demarc 3-way splitter for the modem which corrected a problem with connection issues.  Soon thereafter we switched a landline over to Cox telephone and acquired the Cisco DPQ3212.  For about the first 12 months it ran flawlessly.   At some point, after the first 12 months, I installed a 2-way splitter on the dedicated run for the modem to provide TV service for a TV.  All seemed to function OK.   However, throughout the past recent months we have been experiencing connectivity issues that is often reflected on the modem status lights or by the loss of network response and phone service.  I also haven't ruled out a DOS attack from time to time and therefore I've tried using Wall Watcher to analyze the network traffic that the router is seeing..   Here are the BEFORE (splitter not installed) and CURRENT (splitter installed) modem readings below.  Thanks.

Readings before splitter installed about 1 year ago

Signals to the device currently look well within acceptable limits.  It's not uncommon to have to reset the device from time to time however if you think this is happening too often we can definitely swap the device for you if you like.

So, my relatives picked up a new Cisco DPQ3212 and I installed it.  However, I later realized that it didn't come with a battery.  They had Cox Telephone service prior to November 1, 2013, therefore shouldn't they be entitled to a battery for this modem?  If so, do they have to make another trip back to the Cox store or can it be shipped to them?  Thanks.

@RobH

Indeed batteries are no longer included standard but have to be ordered by contacting our account services team.  If phone service was established prior to 11/1/13 there should be no charge to have one shipped.

Chris:

BTW, would I require a formal tech support referral before going into my local Cox store to exchange the modem or would just walking in suffice?  Thanks.

Hi RobH,

As long as they have the modem in stock at the Cox Solutions Store, you would be able to do an exchange in the store.
