Audio Control via Cable Box
I have 5 cable boxes in my home. Some are set to control the volume through the TV, some through the cable box. I have compared all settings in the volume settings and all are the same. How do I set the volume to be controlled by the box rather than via TV or vice versa?

Ross,
His point is what you want to change is the volume lock on the controller. When you press volume up on your remote either TV or Cable will blink. If TV blinks your turning the volume up of the TV. If cable blinks, your turning the volume up for the cable box. Each has its own seperate volume, just like how when you talk into a microphone there is the volume of the source (voice) and the device (microphone).
I don't know if this is your remote (if not reply back with what remote you have) but see page 17 of this manual. If your changing the volume lock to TV, make sure the remote is programmed for that TV. Also make sure the volume output is fixed under Audio options in the box.

I'm sorry but a phone call this morning disrupted my train-of-thought. I meant to add Volume Control Procedures.
You don't need to aim the remote control at the TV or cable box during these procedures. You can do this on a tabletop.
1. On the remote control for the cable box, press the Mode button for the device you want to control the volume (AUX, DVD, TV or CABLE)
- The selected Mode button blinks once
2. Simultaneously depress the MUTE and SELECT buttons
- The selected Mode button blinks twice
3. Press the Volume + button
- The selected Mode button blinks once
4. Again, on the remote control for the cable box, press the Mode button for the device you want to control the volume (AUX, DVD, TV or CABLE).
- The selected Mode button blinks twice
5. Repeat for whichever device you want to control your volume or channel buttons

Your cable box doesn't adjust the volume on your TV. The remote control for your cable box adjusts the volume on your TV.
Do you remember entering the code for your TV into the cable-box remote-control during initial setup? That code configured your remote control to not only adjust the volume but other basic commands on your TV, such as turning it on and off and perhaps entering its setup screen.
If you entered the correct code and press volume up/down on your cable-box remote-control, your TV directly receives and interprets the light signal to adjust its volume. To test this connection, cover the infrared sensor on your TV and try to turn it on or off with the cable-box remote-control.
If you have five cable boxes, you should have five remote controls. If you enter the correct code of each TV into its corresponding cable-box remote-control, your should be able to control the volumes.
See the following to research codes: http://www.urcsupport.com/index.php

So it is your contention that volume cannot be controlled by the cable box? It obviously is on two of five connected devices.

Each "cable box" is different. Each IPG is different. Using the HDMI output of the "cable box" makes things different. I suggest you get a little more specific in your questions.

Bruce, Health Edge:
Thanks for the reply. There was no intent to insult and I do not acknowledge the “obvious question” remark below with the negative connotation in which it may have been intended. I simply attempted to concisely state facts.
I appreciate the information that you provided and it has solved my issue.
