Can I use this cable modem with Cox, and if so how can I have it programmed to do so?

@BBS

The 6190 should be just fine for most tiers of service.  Visit http://www.cox.com/residential/support/internet/article.cox?articleId=b2ec95d0-7ef9-11df-5590-000000000000 for more information on modems approved by tier of service.

What tier/service do you have? That will work, but it's overkill for everything except ultimate. Also it  has a known ICMP reject bug that might cause you problems. Unless you need the full 300Mbps down, I say go with the SB6183.

Cox High Speed Internet Premier

Would that be fine?

Any service will work with the SB6190, it's just you don't need that much modem for Premier. Your other posts showed a bad upstream problem. I would get that looked at first before buying a new modem. Last, you current modem is a DPQ3212, if you swap it for a SB6190, you phone will stop working. You would need to use a splitter and use both modems, further reducing your signal, which is a bad idea.

Does upstream mean coming INTO/BEFORE the modem. Never use the phone.

I appreciate your help

It's not a physical location, but a certain kind of current going through the cable wire. I would just suggest a technician out to your house to check signal levels and then see your speeds. If still slow then look at new modems.

Thanks, Not really wanting to pay a Cox technician to come out. Appreciate the feedback

This seems odd to me. You are willing to buy a expensive modem that won't make a difference but you won't pay a person to actually fix the problem? If so, try looking at the wiring yourself and improve it? Also, it won't cost anything if the problem is in the house box or outside.
