Arris SB6190
Hello,
I'm in Northwest AR and need to upgrade my current sb6180 to either the sb6183 or the sb6190 to have access to the full 200mbps bandwidth instead of 150. I have two questions regarding the sb6190 that will enable me to decide which to buy.
1). What is the current firmware version Cox has deployed on the sb6190? There are many known issues with the firmware and as of mid February (other forum post from OK area subscriber) it appeared that Cox was still using the older version with bugs and latency issues. If the updated firmware has not yet been deployed, is there any ETA?
2) How many down channels will my modem be allowed to access? I know it should be at least 16, but are 24 channel configurations currently used on the ultimate tier anywhere in Northwest AR? If 16 is current max, is it likely to expect 24 available by 2017?
I'd like to get the sb6190 to future proof since no one has any clue when gigablast will be available to them, but it doesn't seem worth it if the firmware issues may remain for many more months. The cheaper sb6183 is the primary Cox recommended modem and performs better on Cox service. Still, it'd be nicer to go ahead and have the 32 channels rather than 16.
Thank you.

I don't have the firmware version readily available however you'll currently get anywhere between 12-24 channels depending on what is currently deployed in your area. We don't restrict how many channels a modem is allowed to bond to.

ChrisL, thank you SO MUCH. That's the first decent answer I've received from anyone at Cox... the emails I've received from techs have given me useless information and suggestions that either showed a complete lack of comprehension or just disregard of my question. Because it's likely my area will upgrade to 300/30 and 24 down within a year, I'm leaning towards going with the SB6190 despite firmware issues. I just hope they're livable in real world application.

I just installed the SB6190. In my area (Metairie, Louisiana), I get 12 downstream channels and 4 upstream channels. The modem firmware is 9.1.93D. This version has some ICMP issues, but no UDP/TCP that I can tell.
