Arris Gateway Bridge Mode
I just spoke with Cox tech support to ask them to walk me through placing the Arris Gateway modem into bridge mode so that I can use my own router with it. The rep said that's not something Cox supports for security reasons.
- Is there a better explanation someone can provide for why Cox won't support this than "security reasons?" It really doesn't make sense to me.
- I tried disabling the wireless settings of the router myself and keep running into the issue of my router saying it's not connected to the internet. That's why I tried asking Cox for help. Has anyone successfully been able to do this without issues?
Thanks,
Josh

1. "Security" is just a word Cox throws out when they don't want to tell you the real reason. They disable it so people don't call up like you did, asking how to use it.
2. Bridge mode is disabled in the configuration file. The best you can do is put your router into AP mode and use the routing functions of the gateway. If you want to use your router for that instead, you would need to obtain a stand alone modem.
@chris_c21 You didn't have luck with putting the Arris gateway into bridge, right?

Thanks for the info. I ended up going to the nearby Cox store to return the gateway and purchase the SB6183, which is the modem-only option for the ultimate tier.
I'm a bit dissatisfied with the whole situation, but at least now I don't have to deal with the gateway.

Nope... best I could do was disable the wireless radios on the TG2472 then set up my router as an AP.
