Antennas unavailable May 7?
Last week, I spoke to a representative about changing my Cox services. When I asked about cancelling my cable TV, she informed me as of May 7, the signal from my local networks would no longer be available to be received by an over the air antenna. She informed me I would need a cable box after that date if I wanted to watch any kind of television programming. I tried to tell her I thought she was mistaken, but she insisted without cable, I would lose all local channels on May 7.
When I asked what the affiliates would do with their huge antennas, she told me the antennas were being used to push the signal underground to the cable boxes.
Why are your representatives being trained to tell outright lies in order to scare customers into keeping their service?

I think the person was confused. They mistook what Cox is broadcasting with what stations (ABC,CBS, ETC) are broadcasting. If you have a OTA antenna, you don't have Cox. If you have Cox cable, then you will no longer be able to get a picture by connecting the cable directly into the TV. You will now need a box.

I tried several times to straighten them out. They assured me I would receive zero channels of any kind without a cable television subscription and box. I do understand the need for a box going forward because of the change to the Cox signal. I gave the benefit of the doubt until I confirmed they had no idea what they were talking about. They said the FCC mandated the use of cable to receive local channels and compared it to the FCC mandate of going digital.
I happen to have an OTA antenna and Cox, only because I got a good deal on basic cable stations. I'm taking my box back, though, to save $8.50/month. I can do without cable TV.

That's a great complaint. The representative knew what she was doing and attempting to take advantage. You should file a complaint with the FCC and Better Business Bureau.

I've now filed a complaint with both the FCC and BBB, for all the good that will do.

@barrettd,
I am truly sorry that you had to endure that experience with us. It is true that you can certainly get all of the local over the air channels with the use of a digital antenna. It is also true that you will need to have a cable box or cable card in order to continue to receive channels through our service. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
Thanks,
Allan - Cox Support Forums Moderator.

An apology won't correct this problem. The representative either lied to Barrettd or Cox has an ineffective training program for her position. What will Cox do to prevent future "confusion?"

I was not confused. Your representative assumed I was an idiot and tried to scare me into keeping my service.

I understood you weren't confused because you called her out on the lie.
The moderator apologized for "any confusion this may have caused."
Cox needs to resolve the cause for this complaint, which I understand will be nothing. However, she probably did what she was told: pressure the customer to spend, spend, spend.
