All-In-One Modem-Router-Phone devices

Are there any commercially available devices to purchase that support modem, router and phone that is compatible with the Cox network so we no longer need to pay device rental fees when using Cox for telephony?

You can search for Cox Approved Modems and buy whichever router you want.  Cox can't charge for telephony equipment.  It's against the law.  Whatever equipment Cox requires for telephone service, they have to provide it...free.

I'm curious if anyone on this forum has actually gotten the equipment that is needed to allow a phone to attach to customer owned equipment. I had resigned myself to using the rental, but would be interested to know how one goes about getting the needed equipment from Cox. I haven't been able to find reference to such equipment on the Cox website.

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for your reply. Perhaps my previous post wasn't clear. I was wondering whether Cox offers a device that can be used with a customer provided router & modem that will allow connection of a phone to be used with the Cox bundle that offers phone service. One of the previous posts (by Bruce) suggested that such a device is required to be offered by Cox for free.

Hi SamS,

Cox has a Telephony Modem equipped with dual band WiFi. There is no rental fee included when using it solely for telephone service. If you activate the internet service on that modem/router combo, then there is a rental fee included to utilize the Panoramic WiFi from that Modem.

I'm not sure of your current setup, but if you have a Modem and router of your own, then you can stay with that for internet and a eMTA used separately for the phone service. This hook-up would work, and may require a splitter attached to the coax between the wall and equipment for both the modem and eMTA to share the signal to that outlet.

I'm in a similar boat...I want to upgrade my internet speed but the phone/internet modems that I see don't seem to allow the higher speeds. So, from what I've read here, It appears I can split the signal coming in and keep my old Cisco DPQ3212 for the phone and buy another (Cox approved of course) modem for the internet?

Hi Ducrider,

You have the option to purchase a Cox Approved Modem/ WiFi Modem found on our Cox.com website. A splitter and a coax line to connect from the splitter to your modem would be required to allow both the Cisco 3212 and your Modem to share the same active coax outlet. You would need to contact Cox to add the purchased Modem to the account.

Hi Dustin, Is the modem you are referring to the one listed on the website for $89.99 ? What model is it and what speeds does it support? Thanks!

Ducrider,

I would need a link to understand which modem you're talking about. Our website lists a number of Cox approved Modems that can also be purchased from a third party retailer.
