2 Wi-Fi Routers + 1 network bridge + 1 Modem running on Cox - will it work?
We will be moving into a large house where there will be 2 families in one house. Is it possible to have 2 wifi networks running off one Cox modem using a network bridge. (We need to keep things private)
My idea is this:
1. Ultimate Internet package from Cox - gives us enough bandwidth
2. Use the high speed Docsys 3 modem connected to a standard gigabit network bridge using a Cat6 cable
3. Connect the 2 wifi routers to ports on the gigabit network bridge using high speed Cat6 cables.
This gives us 2 Wi-Fi networks in one large house.
My question is - Will this work? It would be similar to someone connecting 2 computers to the modem via a bridge,(not recommended, because there is no firewall) It should work because the modem would only see 2 devices and assign IP addresses to each of them -
I remember seeing something in the Cox account management for setting up to 3 devices, but I cannot find it anymore
Can anyone help ?

Not sure if by bridge you mean a switch, but if so, then yes. It may take some doing but Ultimate in most markets comes with up to 3 DHCP IP's. So you would go modem > switch > Router 1 + Router 2.
They used to have something called Multiple Computer Access (MCA) but that was removed sometime last spring I think. There is a thread on here somewhere about it.
Try to get a SB6180 if you can, since that will show you the configuration file which will make troubleshooting multiple IP's easier. Basically the configuration file name will have a 3 in it somewhere if its correct. I would fact check this by going modem > switch > PC 1 + PC 2 first, perhaps with laptops. If you don't have the correct configuration file, they might have to change the service code on your account, but to be honest Im not exactly sure how that works. I don't think its automatic. Could a Moderator clarify?

Yes it should work with your configuration on the ultimate plan.
