Collecting the threads where people are saying they have ping and packet loss issues. Unlikely that this wide spread problem is caused by a "router", "signal issue" or "bent cables" (unless somehow everyone's cables got bent over night across the country? Santa Claus?) These problems are ranging from California to New Orleans, Arizona and Nevada between. I know these are unusual times but also sending technicians to check cables or trying to blame modems, house cabling for the issues doesn't help. What can you do: Install PingPlotter (14day trial) and start collecting data. 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 are Google's anycast DNS servers that should be optimized for latency. You could also try to ping cox.net, zoom.us, google.com or try to find your game server addresses. Try to collect several days of data to see how the service degrades in certain peak times Post the results here and email cox.help@cox.com with the data and your issues/location etc.See if you get an answer or anything helpful to address. In some cases they want to send technician over but if you already had technician check your signals or cables, it's likely not going to help If the problem persist, consider filing informal FCC complaint as azchips didon his case Cox, what can you do: Escalate these issues to your manager/director customer support who can then escalate it further, hopefully up to the CEO/whoever is the director of Cox Communication. Acknowledge that the issues exists and communicate to customers what is happening, what you plan to do and when. Email customers affected or post in this forums or on twitter. Launch your own investigation to the network look for bottlenecks, speed up your upgrade plans if you can. Even after this crisis, we are likely to see increase in businesses and consumers internet usage. Focus improving the latency in the overall network. This is what most people are complaining about it. Since affects how fast new connections open, dns requests get resolved, and providing good experience for applications that require stable and constant connectivity (video calls, ssh, gaming). Threads (most of these are from the last couple of weeks): I'm getting really tired of this. Hey all, for those unaware, explanation of issue at end of post. Many of us are struggling with extreme amounts of packet loss through COX, we need to come up with some sort of plan for action. Some ideas (And I’m completely serious here): Coordinate time to peacefully protest at their corporate office As a group, continually post on their forum Anytime a COX truck is seen, pull up and chat with the techs to remind them of the issue (individual rather than group task) Coordinate FCC complaint for viral effect Class action lawsuit (Does anyone know if we can sue considering repeal of net neutrality laws? It is clear that COX is violating their own prerogative of following the old rules) I’m sure there are many competitive gamers on COX who would coordinate with us. Any Amazon AWS game experiences this packet loss. Additionally, many of us don’t have the option of switching ISPs. This issue has been ongoing for roughly a year with no signs of being solved. This issue is affecting MANY players. Very interested to hear your thoughts🙏 Explanation of issue: Most COX Com subscribers experience massive amounts of upstream packet loss while playing games that use Amazon’s AWS servers. One of the most notable effects is (in Fortnite) often times your first shot with any shotgun does not register, however, you see the hit marks. Roughly ~1/8 of shots don’t register. The issue has been ongoing for a year, and COX has shown no effort to solve. They’ll charge you $70 for a tech to come out who can’t diagnose the problem (as the problem is deep within COXs routing mechanisms). Competitive gaming on COX is extremely discouraging, and many of us can’t switch ISPs for whatever reason (bandwidth etc).6.9KViews6likes13CommentsSevere packet loss (Upload) to amazon web services (Fortnite) - UPDATE 1/9
UPDATE - I suspect this packet loss issue may be fixed very soon. Maybe within the next week. That's all I'll say for now - I'll update again soon Yep, another AWS packet loss post. Have none of the past customers with this issue had their problems actually resolved? I'm consistently getting 0-10% packet loss to Amazon web services (both west and east servers) making fortnite unplayable. No, I do not have this problem with other games I play as they do not use Amazon web services to host their servers. This seems to be an issue with the path cox routing takes to AWS servers. my cox tracert to AWS west (oregon):https://textuploader.com/dzw7o my cox tracert to AWS west (52.42.109.244) :https://textuploader.com/dzw7g my cox tracert to AWS east:https://textuploader.com/dzw70 my tethered AT&T iphone to AWS west:https://textuploader.com/dzw76 - interesting how AT&T LTE is a legitimately better connection to AWS than vegas's "best" ISP No I'm not using a puma 6 modem. I have the cisco DPQ3212. puma 6 test anyway:https://imgur.com/a/iKR9PYY I've already troubleshot by hardwiring to modem directly with the same results. I've unplugged the power on router and modem (although it stays on) numerous times, as well as coax. Here's a tracert of another cox customer with the same exact problems:https://pastebin.com/index/ehaQBYEd and another: https://pastebin.com/Qqfxa5UN (there are many more tracerts exactly like these; it also seems like we're all dropping packets at the exact same servers) now here's a tracert of a cox customer in phoenix (to AWS west) who has 0% packet loss:https://pastebin.com/MX1GfGPC A reddit thread furthering the evidence that this is explicitly a cox issue and not a personal one:www.reddit.com/.../ I would appreciate real effort in getting this resolved - I know I'm going to be told this is a personal issue when it obviously simply is not. Thanks in advanceSolved76KViews6likes173CommentsIntermittent service (drops, slow speeds) for 85032 and other Phoenix area zip codes over the last 3 weeks. This is a cox issue, not our modems. Fix it
Over the past 3-4 weeks the Phoenix area and other cities have been constantly getting drops and seeing slow speeds in their internet service. With school starting for most communities and many more people working from home, these problems need to be addressed immediately. We implore you Cox, to stop blaming our modems on the problems and fix the issue with your service. You can see by the many posts on downdetector.com and istheservicedown.com as well as this forum, this is a widespread issue, with no response from Cox about apparent problems at all. Please fix our internet.12KViews6likes74CommentsOne America News Network
Please add One America News Network (OANN) to your channel lineup. I see it has been requested numerous times, and yet it still isn't available. Direct TV offers OANN. I don't really want to switch to them, but Cox's lack of addressing this repeatedly requested channel is disheartening and I am questioning retaining service with Cox.2.4KViews6likes3CommentsACC Network
I am respectfully requesting that Cox Communications add the ACC Network to their line-up in our area due to the interest in this channel. Do the right thing and let your customers know in our area one way or another if you will or will not be adding the ACC Network to your line-up so that we can entertain other options if necessary. Thank you18KViews5likes57CommentsTired of Latency and Packet Loss
So tired of latency and packet loss like most of you are. Literally cannot play competitively anymore in online games because they refuse to address the complaints. It's especially brutal when connecting to anything AWS or Google related, funny how that works. Fortunately, they railroaded other service provides out of Arizona so we get stuck with garbage COX. If you're experiencing the same issues: https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us File a complaint with the FCC - eventually, they'll need to justify the number of re-occurring complaints.4.8KViews5likes14CommentsLifting Data Cap Covid-19
I'm curious if Cox will follow in the footsteps of AT&T and Comcast in removing the data cap limit during the outbreak. I work for Hartford Healthcare in CT, and more folks like myself are starting to work from home during the outbreak, and with my ability to remotely monitor our hospital's systems via VPN, I'll burn through my limit fairly quickly. Cox? This seems like an easy PR win.7.1KViews5likes27Comments
