First, download MALWAREBYTES https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/ Next, download CCleaner https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/download/standard Next, download Glary Utilities https://www.glarysoft.com/downloads/ After they have been installed and updated, disconnect the computer from the Internet. (disable the network devices) If possible, backup all your documents to another location (like an external drive or even DVD's) Next, run malwarebytes. Depending on the results (ie, something found) you may have to run CCleaner. If nothing is found, most of the time everything is OK. Reboot the computer Enable the network devices. Next, create a System Restore Point. (Some virus will turn this off, this step insures that the program is running) I would also recommend that you check your Firewall settings. If you are running Windows 10, Windows Security is sufficient for home use. Make sure is up-to-date You do not need to buy a separate Antivirus software. AND you should never run more than one Antivirus program at the same time, They conflict with each other and cause gaps on their definitions list Next, run Glary Utilities. "One-Click Maintenance" "Scan for Issues" After 28 days, run Malwarebytes again. If everything is OK, remove the program. Run Glary Utilities at least once a month. I hope these help. Good luck Julian Garcia Computer Technician. Re: detected suspicious activity ... or not Sorry I'm late to this party. The emails you are getting are SCAM to get your information NEVER NEVER NEVER reply to these emails or click on any of its links. Either deleted them (permanently, not just to the trash folder) or forward it to the security address on the COX website. https://www.cox.com/residential/support/reporting-spam-phishing-and-virus-abuse.html I get at least 10 of these a week from COX. One way you can check if it is legit is to look at the links address. Outlook, allows me to display the link address just by hovering the mouse pointer over the link WITHOUT clicking it. Must fake links have a weird looking address with lots of letters that do not spell anything. I hope this helps Julian Router Ethernet Ports stopped working. Wireless is OK I have an ARRIS TG 1682G with 4 Ethernet Ports and 2 WiFi ports (2,4 and 5.0). Yesterday (Nov 18,2018) the Ethernet ports stopped working at all. The wireless were working but I could not get on the Internet . After several attempt to fix it, I finally reset it to Factory. Now I can get on the Internet via the WiFi but the ports are still not working. All the connected computers (4) are showing "Unknown Network" with IP addresses starting with 169... Tell me what other info you need to troubleshoot this problem
