I recently dropped Cox cable but kept Preferred internet. Right now I am at 18% usage and the last few days have noticed when I try to stream video my internet speed drops dramatically. I called tech support and checked speed and suddenly it was normal. My usual internet speed is 100+ mbps upload and 10+ mbps download. when streaming it drops to 10-15 mbps download and 3-5 mbps upload.
Could this be retaliation from Cox for dropping cable? Has anyone else experienced this situation?
C6300 does not have Qos. Have much better download and upload speeds today. Maybe Cox has been having problems and they have it working right now. Thanks for your interest. Will repost if problem returns.
Usually most complaint of throttling turn out to be congestion of some type, so it makes sense it would get better sometimes.
If you find stuff like Netflix or Youtube or Hulu are slow but internet speed tests show a fast connection, try changing your DNS to google's DNS @ 188.8.131.52/184.108.40.206. You can set it for the whole network on the C6300 under Internet Setup or see page 22-23 of manual. This can help either use or bypass some of the cache servers (CDN) Cox sets up to save on bandwidth. I say "use or bypass" because sometimes it's better to use the CDN that is closer, however if that is congested, it better to use the normal servers.
