IPv6 setup?
According tohttp://www.cox.com/residential/support/internet/article.cox?articleId=%7B0bced860-9666-11df-6baf-000000000000%7D my Internet only service with my personally owned Motorola Surfboard should be IPv6 enabled. And according to the documents I have for my modem and router they should be IPv6 capable. Here is the information about my modem: Model Name: SB6141 Vendor Name: Motorola Firmware Name: SB_KOMODO-1.0.6.14-SCM03-NOSH Boot Version: PSPU-Boot(25CLK) 1.0.12.18m3 Hardware Version: 7.0 Serial Number: 374781423200698410020022 Firmware Build Time: Jan 22 2015 14:31:03 My router is a ASUS RT-N16 with firmware version3.0.0.4.276 which the router claims is the latest release. When checking my modem's configuration page is says that "Modem's IP Mode" is set to "IPv4 Only". There are no end user controls on this page, so it appears to be configured by Cox on modem power up. I thought maybe that was an artifact of the modem's status presentation so tried setting IPv6 on the router to "Native with DHCP-DP" to see if it could pull any configuration but that failed. I could setup the router using 6in4 to another IPv6 provider, but I'd rather use Cox. Is there anything I can do here or is this configuration entirely in the hands of Cox?Solved12KViews0likes13Comments
Loss of connectivity, IPv6 only (no IPv4) and DOCSIS T3/T4 errors
Our two Win10 computers go from disconnected, IPv6 access only, IPv4 and IPv6 full access, everything ok and back again. This has been happening for several weeks. I have swapped out cable modem (NETGEAR C6300BD), NIC cards and switch in the house without impact. The ethernet interface often says: IPv4 Connectivity: No network access IPv6 Connectivity: Internet You can also see this in online forums as "only google works" as all IPv6 sites work - but there aren't many. When running diagnostics the error is "Ethernet" does not have a valid IP configuration" Not fixed. Also noticed teredo tunneling was being used to do IPv6 over IPv4 and that this is one of the least prefered methods. After reviewing cable modem event logs there are several T4 errors and some T3 errors. Therefore I believe this problem is between cable modem and Cox. On an Ultimate package in Orange County, for a Netgear R7000 router behind a DOCSIS 3.1 modem, what is the correct IPv6 setting to use in the routers config page: 6to4Tunnel? DHCP? Static? IPv6 prefix changing
Is it normal for, or are there circumstances under which you can expect, the IPv6 prefix delegated to you by Cox to change? (I had been under the impression that, unlike IPv4 addresses, these were not dynamically assigned.) I ask in this case because my /56 just has afterbouncing the external interface onmy borderrouter, which I would not have thought should cause that. (I had expected that it might change, on the other hand, after upgrading my modem some months ago, which did not appear to cause it; although, on thinking back, this is the first time the external interface has beenadministratively downsince the modem was swapped out.) In any case, is there any word on when and why this can be expected to happen? While the router picks up the change of prefix just fine interface address-wise, it does force me to manually rejig the neighbor discovery config on the internal interface, the firewall rules, andmy external DNS, in order to restore connectivity which is something of a pain in the neck, belike. -c7.5KViews0likes17CommentsIPv6 Routing using Arris TG2472 modem (Cox Wireless modem) & Juniper SRX firewall
Hi All, I was about to ask if anyone had this working, but figured it out and thought I'd share as this would be gold information for a few with the need. I have a Juniper SRX240 setup behind the Arris TG2472 modem. The modem can do IPv6 and will pull an address using SLAAC. Any, the Arris modem is using a link-local as the gateway. It says the link-local is FE80::226:99FF:FE89:EBD9. On my juniper, I entered the command, 'set routing-options rib inet6.0 static route 0::/0 qualified-next-hop fe80::226:99ff:fe89:ebd9 interface ge-0/0/0.0'. This is the command required to enter a link-local as a next-hop (more or less gateway) for the firewall. I tried to ping google v6 dns (2001:4860:4860::8888) and it didn’t work. I had a client plugged into the Arris modem as well as it was successful, so I checked the IPv6 neighbors on the windows client and didn’t see fe80::226:99ff:fe89:ebd9, but I did see fe80::3e7a:8aff:fefb:3609 (check output below) and more specifically, it is also a router. I changed the Juniper cmd to 'set routing-options rib inet6.0 static route 0::/0 qualified-next-hop fe80::3e7a:8aff:fefb:3609 interface ge-0/0/0.0' and viola….IPv6 Magic! So, I don’t even see the link-local that the Arris modem says it sees, but whatever…likely a bug. This is now working. BTW, you get a /60, so I am testing using routed /64’s behind each other to see if that works. It should, but you never can tell with cheaper gear. Happy routing! Despite having IPv6, my Xbox One is still using the IPv4 address; it does use an IPv6 DNS however. My when I log in to my router I can see it has assigned the Xbox an IPv6 address, but when I go in to the Xbox settings it still shows the IPv4 address. Another strange issue I have is that my speed tests are drastically different on the Xbox than on any other device I test. I consistently get 16 down 7 up on the Xbox, where I get about 20 down 20 up on my laptop. My Xbox is connected to my router through an Ethernet cable.4.6KViews0likes1Comment

Cox's IPv6 DNS server doesn't appear to work for all IPv6 domains.
Cox's IPv6 DNS server, 2600:8800:3300:14d::1 doesn't do all IPv6 DNS lookups. Does Cox have an IPv6 DNS server that does do IPv6 DNS lookups? The following lookup doesn't return an AAAA (IPv6) record: dig @2600:8800:3300:14d::1 aaaa aaaa.v6ns.test-ipv6.com Maybe it's something wrong with that specific server, because, e.g., this does return an AAAA record: dig @2600:8800:3300:14d::1 aaaa ipv6.google.com IPv6-test.com says: How can you improve your score ? 1. Change your DNS servers Although your network connection supports IPv6, it appears the DNS servers you are using do not have IPv6 connectivity. There are public free DNS servers with IPv6 connectivity that you can switch to, like the Google Public DNS.
