ContributionsMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Poor connection quality for the last week If you run a TRACERT through command prompt (One line of text , Easily Googled) You can see where you packets are getting dropped. You'll notice that no Cox Tech will EVER mention this test. It can provide proof of NETWORK issues outside your home, and they would rather not spend money to maintain their infrastructure. Once you run the tests, If you notice the issue is dropping around the Cox Nodes ,Take screenshots and submit an FCC and FTC complaint form. Cox is a utility provider that MUST operate under federal guidelines... And inconsistent service will only be address if YOU can pinpoint the issue because the techs wont run the most basic of test.... You'll notice they give you PLENTY of reasons for poor signal, without ever testing for packet loss. My personal favorite lie was "Noise or ingress on the line" I wasted 6 months, had 7 technicians to my home, hundreds of phone calls.... Come to find out the issue was with a node in the Los Angeles area dropping tons of people in South West Region (Cali, NV, AZ)Seems weird that NOT ONE of the techs I spoke to mentioned this test...even weirder that ALL techs who refused to document/acknowledge the packet loss and tracer results... Once I had the screenshots submitted to FTC & FCC... Node was resolved in less than a week. Probably just a coincidence though. Re: Packet loss of 2-5% on all devices If youve had issues and are currently experiencing packet loss. The only way to prompt Cox to maintain their infrastructure is to hold them account. Save your screen shots of the tracert and ping tests, Submit a complaint with the FTC and FCC. As a company, Cox wants to spend as little as possible and lie to you about the cause of the network issues. However, as a utility receiving federal funding... They have guidelines they must maintain. it took me 6 months, 100s of calls, 7 tech visits and 3 new modems. Once the complaint was filed... They fixed the node that was clearly having the issues in the South West, Re: Gigablast - sudden inconsistent Download and Upload speeds If the issues started after they did service in your area, it could be an issue with their network. Not your equipment. Google PING TEST and TRACERT to learn how to run a couple simple tests that will determine if the issue is outside your home. Save the screenshots for proof. Most technicians will avoid this since Cox doesn't want documented proof of their infrastructure issues. Don't let Cox blame you for their service issues. It took a complaint with FTC and FCC after 6 technicians came to my home in 6 months to show that the issue was with a the south west region[ langbprj02-ae1.0.rd.la.cox.net .] Run tests through out the day, andIf your result show packet loss and drops on THEIR end, you can submit a complaint form to help get the changes made. Why did it take an FCC and FTC complaint to address network issues? Lets be honest, Cox has been bamboozling its customers for years.... Here's how to get them to take responsibility and maintain the utility provide. The constant interruptions and hiccups in the modem don't stop. You call tech support, and it gets brushed off as "Too many people getting home from work" and the technicians they have for support have NO knowledge of the tech they're supposedly troubleshooting. If you're lucky, they'll reboot the modem, There's something called "Packet Loss" - when one or more transmitted data packets fail to arrive at their destination. Effectively, If I send you a story that is100 pages long, and the mailmanonly delivers 80 of those... How could you have the full story? The continued packet loss and connection issues Ive been having for 6 months cant be resolved because the technicians are either WILLFULLY refusing to acknowledge this, or INTENTIONALL trained to avoid anything that would point to a net work issue, I have my 6th technician scheduled to my home July 5... Everything from my PC, to The modem, To the house wiring was blamed for the issues. Then I learned how to run ping tests and trace routes.... Both tests Cox technicians avoided running because the results would prove the issue is on their end... Both are simple command that can track How much and more importantly WHERE your packets are getting dropped. Multiple tests point to a specific node in the Southwestern Infrastructure. [ langbprj02-ae1.0.rd.la.cox.net .] I'm curious why I need my day interrupted for the 6th time, and Why multiple friends inArizona are experiencing the same dropped packets.. at the same node in California...? If this problem is somehow on my end... Why do Arizona and Nevada customers have the same issue with the Los Angeles node? So, 6 months of the blaming the consumer, it took ME discovering a basictest to prove the technicians were lying and avoid utility maintenance. The Federal Communications Commission andFederal Trade Commission both have website that allow you submit complaints for fraud and bad business. A utility knowing providing sub par service is doing both. You can google the steps to run a PINGTESTand a TRACERT. I'm sure you'll see huge packet loss as well as drops that occur WELL outside of your homes range of responsibility. Screen shot these, and submit the complaint forms. Sudden GASP, SHOCK, After submitting these forms, Executive Escalations gave me a call, Theyll look into the construction of the network Don't let the tech lie and get away with knowingly providing sub standard service. Cox doesn't want to pay to maintain its lines and its borderline criminal.
