Internet traffic and bandwidth sharing at busy times. Post Hurricane Ida performance ***Update since services came back online 3 weeks after Ida*** My speeds here in metairie, LA. Were consistently 500 my + for months before hurricane ida. After hurricane hit, speeds came back but were slow, leggy and intermittent were getting disconnected. However. Speeds have improved dramatically but still not back to 500MB. In the mornings, I approach 250-300, but after 8am- ish, speeds drop back down to 30mb until late night. I believe cox cable is slowly repairing and fixing the speed issues in our community but it will take time. I have already reset modem and had a technician visit to check that the tap outside the house is not getting the right signal//speed. At least it's not my house and confirmed that it's on cox cables side Thanks to this forum for letting us express and discuss concerns. Re: Slower download speeds after Hurricane Ida Seems like when the cable does come back, the speeds are throttled down to 30 download and 10 up. Glad we have some.internet back but can't wait until we get full speed here in Metairie/New Orleans. Re: Slower download speeds after Hurricane Ida Thanks for the suggestion. But I connected straight from NID to my modem as a test and I still have terrible download speeds since storm. So definitely, our area has lots of equipment issues still. Thanks Re: Can't get information from Cox on when internet connectivity will be back. Preach on....preach on. Same here in Jefferson parish metairie. They are trying to get it working but we are not getting answers as to what failed. We get connected and then disconnected. Paying for 500 but getting 20 when it comes on but it drops out. Plus now they want the bill paid and some customers cannot get online to pay the bill, hmmm. Entergy knew what happened and they let us know why power was out. COX is a huge company that can let us know what is the problem. At least let us know if this is related to poles being down or are there other pieces of equipment in the area that need inspection??? -HELP Re: Slower download speeds after Hurricane Ida Same here in Jefferson Parrish Metairie. I used to get over 500 down and now I'm down to 25 down. I checked modem logs and there is lot of noise SNR now. So, not sure if they are cleaning up the lines still or is there more equipment that needs to be repaired. Tnx Re: where can I control the mtu for cox router Yep, lower settings like 1492 solve certain packet loss issues but it's hit or miss if you solve anything. You can try lower settings and packets are not lost but have to be resent since MTU size is smaller. Older routers that had minimal hardware and would benefit from these tweaks but auto settings work fine in newer routers with more memory and faster CPUs. My advice test but leave at default. Thanks Re: Garbage speeds when Im paying for far more. What type of modem do you have? Re: DHCPv6-PD Your equipment needs IP v6 ? Ok, here is what I know. IPv4 is 32-BitIP address whereas IPv6 is a 128-Bit IP address. IPv4 is a numeric addressing method whereas IPv6 is an alphanumeric addressing method. ... IPv4 offers 12 header fields whereas IPv6 offers 8 header fields. IPv4 supports broadcast whereas IPv6 doesn't support broadcast. Not sure what yourequipment does , if they need to know what cox had, I am pretty sure a senior cox tech can answer that. My .02 Re: where can I control the mtu for cox router Every router is different, what's your setup like? Also, I have experimented with different MTU settings and automatic is normally the best now a days.
