Once that's done, setup a forward rule that sends copies of all received items to whatever other email address you establish. Re: Cat6 Setup No Re: Port 5900 In all fairness, VNC can still be useful in cases such as this but I would only suggest using VNC in conjunction with a remote access VPN solution of some sort so that at least the VNC port isn't directly exposed to the whole of the Internet. Re: Port 5900 I thought I'd just add that if you care about security in any way, you're basically putting a kick me sign on your home PC if you do this. VNC is not secure and anybody watching your connections will be able to see the password you use. Re: Setting up Orbi WiFi Mesh with ipV6 If doing IT stuff isn't something you consider to be an enjoyable activity I completely understand. I would also suggest reaching out on the Netgear forums as those that participate there are far more likely to understand specific details regarding how to configure your particular router. While I wouldn't necessary say go buy another router just to test but if you can get a hold of another router with IPv6 support that is also worth a try. Re: Setting up Orbi WiFi Mesh with ipV6 I would say from what we know so far this is more likely to be an issue of the router itself. I use a pfSense based appliance and mine works fine. I just needed to enable IPv6 on the WAN interface, then tell all the LAN interfaces to track the WAN. From there, each of my LAN interfaces will have the option to assign IP's via DHCPv6 using the Cox provided PD. But because it works for me and others, I'm thinking this is more of an issue with the Orbi setup. If you haven't checked for router updates recently that might be a good start. If you're feeling adventurous and have a spare PC with at least 2 network interfaces, you could download a community version of pfSense and test it out. Re: Charges on New Build Homes It should probably be clarified that Cox Complete Care doesn't cover pre-installed Ethernet in the home. Re: Massive spike FYI, it looks to me like you may have mistakenly used a capital 5 in your post in place of a lower case 5. Re: Setting up Orbi WiFi Mesh with ipV6 I'm not really sure how the Orbi does this but it sounds like you're not getting a prefix delegation. I was trying to find more info on the User Class setting pictured but unable to. If supported, I'd suggest configuring it to request a prefix delegation of /64 if you just have a single LAN. This may very well require going back to Netgear support for further clarification. Once you're successful, you'll see devices on your home LAN will obtain routable IPv6 addresses all with your /64 prefix delegation. Something else you could experiment with is turning on the LAN DHCPv6 server. My equipment is a bit more sophisticated than what the typical home user has but in my case, DHCPv6 is how I distribute IPv6 addresses to my internal clients. Re: Charges on New Build Homes I guess it depends on what the technician said means. In your initial post, I saw you describing a home contractor's attempt at installing a smart panel for video/data services which usually results in a hot mess and is not the service provider's problem so I can completely understand why you would not have been able to figure out what you needed to do to get services working. Now if the technician that was out for the install identified an issue that was outside of the home and not related to any of this smart panel wiring, you have a good case for requesting a credit for the installation as how I believe it's still Cox policy to refund failed self-install fees if the problem was something on Cox's end. I should probably emphasize the if it was on Cox's end of the issue. Just because you couldn't figure it out and needed a technician to help doesn't mean the issue was Cox's fault. That said, good luck and congratulations on purchasing your new home. Considering the amount of money that changes hands in that process, it may be easier to just consider the cost of establishing services part of the process.
