ContributionsMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: DRM Cox with HD Homerun cable For a few months, Cox has been implementing DRM on all channels (excluding locals) for their "MPEG-4 Upgrade." Unfortunately, there's nothing that you can do to fix/remove it forHdHomerun hardware besides use Windows Media Center, which is very outdated and unsupported. Re: DRM preventing viewing of most channels in Las Vegas market Unfortunately, Windows Media Center appears to be the last option for HdHomerun users besides SiliconDust's apps. 3rd Party apps like Plex, Emby, VLC, etc. are no longer useable due to the DRM. Personally, I'd strongly recommend you to not use Windows Media Center unless you do it through Windows 8.1, which is the last supported OS for it. Some users got WMC to work on Windows 10, but it is missing crucial functionality for CableCards. Re: Wichita KS CableCard now has DRM I sent a complaint to the FCC describing how the Cox was falsely advertising the use of CableCards. Since then, they have officially updated the site with all of the new messages saying: "Due to the evolving use of the Internet to view and transmit video programming, Cox must make network upgrades to ensure its programming remains secure. It may be necessary to contact the equipment provider for CableCARD-ready devices to upgrade your device. Note: PC-based CableCARD devices, such as HDHomeRun Prime from Silicon Dust, TV Wonder from ATI, or InfiniTV from Ceton, require Windows Media Center to record and may be required to view copy-protected channels." In the response, they go into more detail on how it's not Cox who causes the problems, indicating that it's the HdHomerun hardware at fault. I'm starting to believe that Cox is closing the curtain on CableCards. Hopefully at some point in the future this will be fixed. Re: Wichita KS CableCard now has DRM They've officially said: CableCARD Features and Limitations (cox.com) Due to the evolving use of the Internet to view and transmit video programming, Cox must make network upgrades to ensure its programming remains secure. It may be necessary to contact the equipment provider for CableCARD-ready devices to upgrade your device. Note: PC-based CableCARD devices, such as HDHomeRun Prime from Silicon Dust, TV Wonder from ATI, or InfiniTV from Ceton, require Windows Media Center to record and may be required to view copy-protected channels. I'm not currently sure if this is the end of life for all CableCards, but I'm unsure if they are going to reverse this change. Cox Hampton Roads channels are flagged as DRM Hi All, I've been a Cox CableCard user for a little while now, and recently (Around the past two months) I have not been able to view my channels as the majority of them are marked as DRM on my HdHomerun. This forum is from two months ago: Wichita KS CableCard now has DRM - TV - TV Forum - Cox Support Forums, and hasn't been updated in a while, and I was wondering if this issue is permeant or if it will be resolved soon. Thanks Re: Wichita KS CableCard now has DRM Any updates on this? I really rely on my CableCard and I've only been able to get locals for a while now.
