I love how all they see is a business opportunity in 9 pages of discontent customers. And this is Cox in all it's glory. "Yep, we know you're getting screwed, but we will screw you a little better if you sign up for this other ultra plan that you shouldn't need in the first place!" How about, you don't have any real information for our very real problem, you keep your canned replies out of here. It's just infuriating the rest of us. And people. Don't go settling for "2TBs would be enough" line of thinking. That's what they want. In this day and age, there should be NO CAPS at all. Period. Any kind of cap is just a money grab. Again, if they are unable to provide unfettered bandwidth to their customers, they need to reinvest into infrastructure. If there was real competition in the market, they would have. Just like the wireless companies did, they had a competition war and improved their services and offerings. Cable does not have this in most areas. And for the one guy that says"read what you sign up for" and how regulation is bad. Yeah, that's cute and all WHEN YOU AREN'T LIVING WITH A MONOPOLY. Some areas, there is no other choice. Have internet or do not have it. There is no middle ground because these corporations took out all the competition with help from their buddies in government. So, sure, go ahead and cancel and have no access to the internet in today's age. Let's see how long that lasts for some people *eyeroll* Re: Data Cap DarkOneX2 said: One thing that is completely stupid of them at least here in my city is there WAS no real competition here but there is now a company running residential fiber throughout the city and I know people now who already have it, 1Gb up/down for $70 a month unlimited. So wtf would they think it's a smart idea in places like this that have companies that offer this to cap off $100/mo internet tiers at 1TB/mo, and then say they are coming out with unlimited plans soon that likely will be $129+ is my guess when you can get unlimited fiber for almost half the price lol. Don't think they thought this out very well. Yeah, it will be a big increase with a smile and "we listened and we provided!" type marketing BS. Like they are doing us some type of favor. Coleen, no disrespect as I know you are just the messenger. But pass this up to your superiors. WE SIGNED UP FOR AN UNLIMITED PLAN ALREADY! That's what I paid for, that is what I agreed to. Cox is the one at fault here for arbitrarily changing our agreed upon contracts WITHOUT our consent. All we got was some email. I didn't get a rep calling me asking if I'd like to agree to the new terms. I wasn't led to a website where I could check a box agreeing to the new terms. Cox just up and changed it on us without warning. Some are already paying the price for the greed. And then coming in here saying "oh we hear your complaints and we'll fix it LATER THIS YEAR when we figure out how much to charge for an unlimited plan that you already had." How about this, end this PR nightmare and just send an email saying "yeah, we screwed up, the boss can hold off on the new yacht, the caps are removed until we figure something else out". But nope, you're going to gouge us while you take your sweet time coming up with some $200.00/month plan for unlimited data which should be how it is for everyone. Remove the f'in caps. Those that don't use 1TB, won't be affected by those that do. Cox knows this, and we in the tech field know this too. We all pay the same price for the speed we want and it's up to us on how we use it. Trying to get people thinking that "oh you use more you should pay more" is laughable as data bits do not work like finite resources like water. There is no physical product in sending those bits our way with cable that already exists. Re: Data Cap Direct link to create a FCC complaint. The only way the government will move on it if we all take a stand and make noise. So, if you really want to do something about this other than us complaining in a forum that no one cares about, then here's the link. Might get better results than a forum owned by the extortionists. https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=38824 Simple process, but they really are the government body that has the teeth to stop this extortion from happening to us. Re: Data Cap I just filed a complaint with the FCC. I encourage you all to do the same. They must be getting a lot of complaints on the data caps as it is one of the choices in the drop down lists. The only way the government will move on it if we all take a stand and make noise. So, if you really want to do something about this other than us complaining in a forum that no one cares about, then here's the link. Re: Data Cap mrclean said: Is cox going to give those individuals a discount on there bill if they don't hit the limit? That's a cute pipe dream. Will never happen. If anything they'll find that to provide the support needed to field all these complaints they'll raise your fees to compensate. Re: Data Cap A good example is the wireless companies like Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, etc. For awhile they were doing these stupid caps and making a ton of money off of people for no good reason. T-Mobile came out of no where with their unlimited plans, and because there is healthy competition, people were able to drop Verizon and go to a provider with better services. Verizon and others then took notice and started launching better plans, some with unlimited some without but with other compromises. Cable companies don't have this competition anymore because they were allowed to buy out any and all competition. Which is why we are now stuck with ComCast, Cox and Time Warner as the major players. And they all worked out behind the scene deals so they all had their own areas to work in and be the only provider, hence monopoly. And once you are a monopoly with no competition, you can do whatever you want with no consequences. Re: Data Cap BmcD said: wolv said: This is very unreasonable to lump in ultimate subscribers to the same data cap as every other lower tier subscription. either 2TB or I'm shopping around too! I mentioned this before. How many of you would be ok if the ultimate was 2TB? I would be willing to pay a bit more for my service with a higher cap. I'm not a fan of caps at all because they are arbitrary and don't really "solve the problem" so to speak. 1TB today will be nothing in a year from now. 2TB a year from now will be nothing in 3 years and so on. Content will become richer and will require fatter pipes. 4K is going to explode with the TVs this xmas as well as both Xbox and PS4 going full on 4k. Just give us Tiers for crying out loud. How hard can this be??? Plain and simple there should be NO caps. Data bits are not a finite resource. They are not running out. They are not having bandwidth issues. And if they are, it is in their best interest to reallocate some of those BILLIONS of dollars they collect and upgrade their infrastructure so it can withstand future usage models. But considering Cable TV and their Internet service are running off the same pipes and with 300+ channels being delivered without issue to whoever wants it. Pretty safe to assume, they aren't having issues providing access to all their PAYING customers. Data caps are a made up thing. Don't let them convince you otherwise. They have direct back-bone connections into the internet. If you go along with this ridiculousness that are comfortable to live with data caps, we will be right back in this boat when technology gets better, 8K video becomes mainstream and whatever else decides to connect to the internet in your house. Capitalism is made so the company is in constant competition to provide better services for a fair price than their competitors and the customers reap the benefits. The problem here is the government has allowed the cable compaines to grow to such size that they are a monopoly. This should have been stifled at the inception. Cox knows they have no competition in some areas, so without competition there is no reason at all to provide better for less, or invest in new tech and infrastructure. Go look up the salaries of the top executives of these media conglomerates. They live in a different bubble than the rest of us. They have no concept nor care how this affects people at all. Only way they'll care if people stand up for themselves, protest outside their offices, make noise to the congressmen/women and news outlets, cause a drop in their stock, then you get their attention. Otherwise, all of this is falling on deaf ears with only the moderators chiming in with their canned replies of how all this isn't affecting that many people (lies) and how this is for the betterment of everyone. Companies are not made to tell us how to run our lives and choose what we do or not do. They are there as a service provider that is it. At this point they should be turned into a utility provider and strict rules to keep this extortion from happening. Re: Data Cap VeryCoxWeary said: I'm so *** angry I could spit! I've been a customer for 2 1/2 decades and Cox has never put the screws to us like they did with this data cap yesterday. I have Ultimate but with the data cap, by two weeks into the month, that speedy connection will get me to 1TB pretty quickly. Then I'll have to shell out about $200 more to complete the month. (And I don't want any millennial moderator trying to explain the difference between data consumption and bandwidth. I already know the difference. A fast connection is usually desired when a person wants to do a lot of streaming and downloading quickly. And the more quickly you do it, the greater tendency there is to use more data and stream and download more.) Cox is doing this in retaliation for many of us dropping their overpriced digital TV and digital telephone services and just going with Internet. The are trying to make the money back by squeezing blood out of a stone. I hope AT&T retaliates by introducing U-Verse into the Phoenix area. We need to dump this monopoly. Frankly, I'm not one to protest, but I'd join up with anyone willing to protest this OUTRAGEOUS change in service at their Black Canyon Freeway, Phoenix headquarters. I hope there are customers thinking about such protests at their national HQ in Atlanta and in other locations throughout the USA. I haven't been this angry in a very, very long time. Letters and phone calls need to go out to our senators. Congress needs to cut this cable company a "new one." This is corporate profiteering, pure and simple. I spent a few hours today looking around for a new ISP ...pickings in Phoenix are pretty slim. But I'm so *** angry that I might even entertain paying much more for a satellite-based system for the sake of leaving Cox completely. Century Link is a disaster...and Cox knows it sits at the top of this monopoly. You guys really did it this time. You really screwed up. You have gone over the line. And I suspect you also tried to shove it to the streaming companies like AT&T's DirecTVNow, Hulu, and all of the others...figuring that people like me would come back to Cox TV and phone services so that the non-Cox services wouldn't be there to eat into our paltry 1 TB of data. We customers know EXACTLY what you bast@rds are up to.... This will surely put a dent in those companies revenue, but it's also going to sting your bottom line...big time! You just said my exact same sentiments on the matter. So I'll just quote you so it's repeated. There needs to be a protest outside their headquarters. Profiteering and extortion is what it is. It is punishment for not using their TV services. They refuse to let go of a decades old model. I have never had a ISP impose datacaps on me before and I've been using the internet since the day it became public. From Dial-Up, T1, DSL, Satellite and cable. Not even TimeWarner did datacaps. We all know that this isn't a "2% of our customers are ruining the experience for our 98% of the rest". We know you have ample bandwidth. And please, don't insult us by coming into here and telling us the "convenience" of monitoring our usage through an app or online. It is outright annoying! I don't want to monitor it. I want it to work any time I need it for whatever my needs are. Why I pay these high prices, why I went with your top package. Sick of these monopolies and their endless greed. I hope the FCC cornholes the company into oblivion. I've already sent out several letters to congress, FCC and news agencies. So you go ahead and tell your superiors who are in the power to do nothing to let them know how we really feel. We are pissedoff! We are actively looking to dump you. I already know of 5 accounts that cancelled. Hopefully a lot more follow. Also, it's cute that you marked this thread as Solved. It's far from solved. Its solved when Cox decides to take their fist out of my pocket looking for cash that isn't there. Re: Data Cap Basky said: Let me get this straight, If i pay for the 300 MB speed I get the same data cap as somebody who pays for the 15 MB package? Who came up with this brilliant scheme? Shareholders and anyone that is able to get a sizable pay increase. Basically scumbags. Re: Data Cap BmcD said: Rygrath said: You might want to check out AT&T and see if they provide service in your area. Otherwise, according to the rep one of my co-workers spoke to today, "Due to the overwhelming response, we will be modifying the Ultimate Internet package to 2TBs of usage per month". I'm actually ok with this IF it is true. I'm seeing people saying no and others saying yes. What really bothers me is they know where their bread and butter is. My guess is that there is a significant user base that exceeds 1TB and currently, as it states on their website, you have few choices. 1) you pay outrageous overage fees 2) you pay for business internet that is 2-3x the price with 3/4 of the speed or 3) you go somewhere else and somewhere else isn't much better (at least for me here in AZ). I would be will to pay a little more a higher tier of service but right now, Gigablast isn't available in my area and I don't use cable TV or phone or any other bundled service. I would pay for the ultimate with the 2TB cap but like many people have stated before, 4k streaming is going to be fairly standard soon. right now I search for anything 4k when I can. The fact that I have to start monitoring the data usage of the 100 different devices in my house really pisses me off. Maybe consumers should be able to charge companies time and expenses for using their services. Because my bill rate will far exceed the overages! I'm not believing the increase in the cap until I see it in writing. I was in the room when he had the rep on speaker phone and can personally attest to what I heard him say. But those words mean nothing if Cox the company doesn't announce it. And if they do, they'll make it as one of those "We heard you and we listen" type messages and make it sound like they are doing you the best favor. As far as Gigablast, that also has a 2TB cap. So you get faster speed and hit your cap that much faster. And pay more for the privilege. Isn't that just awesome of them? Then you have the IoT devices, Alexa, Google Home, fridges, thermostats, refrigerators, all talking on the internet so you can access them from anywhere. There is no way for your average consumer, much less IT specialists, to monitor how much is being used on something is, for all intents and purposes, is a infinite resource. 1s and 0s being transmitted over lines.
