I know. All batteries eventually die, right? I was ultimately able to navigate to Remote settings where the on screen charge remaining read 5% (no wonder it was so lethargic). I thought this peculiar, as I distinctly recall doing a similar battery level check a couple of days ago when it read 50%. I then changed the batteries for that XR 11. I then took those two batteries that allegedly were down to 5% and put them into a different XR 11 in another room. According to Remote settings on that Contour 2 screen, there was 50% charge remaining. This is truly a head scratcher. Who else has had similar experience? Better yet, who's got a plausible reason for it? Re: Forums Update Someone needs to seriously look into fixing "Notifications". For one thing, neither the "Select All" nor "Select None" seem to work in populating or de-populating the check boxes to their appropriate categories, and no matter how many times I manually uncheck these boxes I am unable to save preferences. Re: Legion Season 2 Not On Demand yet? Something similar happened to me last night when attempting to view the most recent episode of "Atlanta". I'm a subscriber to FX+, which allows on-demand, ad-free broadcasts of a number of FX channel programs as an additional monthly fee from Cox. The particular episode on-screen info read "aired at 9:15PM", seen by me at 10:30PM, well after the episode first aired, effectively shutting me out from watching it. No bigee, as it certainly wasn't the only thing on I could see at that particular time, but it struck me as kind of odd, since I wasn't trying to watch it prior to its official air time. rating Cox' current speed test This may sound like an old dog barking up an old tree, but despite the recent improvements, such as eliminating the Flash-only test and having it appear more like its Ookla origin with closer-to-what-you-pay-for-speeds, as compared to the authentic Ookla, the Cox test still underwhelms. Reference these two test results, performed within moments of the other: https://imgur.com/a/SnfW9 As illustrated, the download results from Ookla are nearly double---double what Cox gauges them to be. The only reason I even continue to conduct Cox speed tests is in the hope that someone, somewhere in Cox land is taking notice that the results are far below Ultimate tier advertised expectations. Re: Problems with Contour 2 DVR Unless I'm mistaken, unlike channels such as FX, AMC and HBO (to name a few), where multiple re-broadcasts are aired *after* the initial program's time slot, there should be only one Criminal Minds on CBS; meaning, there aren't any reruns or repeats once Wednesday night's broadcast is concluded, until perhaps prior to a subsequent season's premier, and that would be way beyond Contour's typical 2-week guide window. Re: New "Improved" Cox Speed Test Sure thing, ColleenD. You're welcome. And thanks for the update on being able to choose servers on the current Cox Speed Test. It's a beneficial option. Most, if not all popular speed test sites these days are HTML5.As far as kicking the Flash based test to the curb, good riddance. I for one won't lose a wink of sleep over it. When in the past I've felt the need to gripe about something I haven't been shy about voicing my displeasure here. After all, that's why this forum exists. As for a comment made in this thread about a different speed test site, one in which it is apparent that the poster particularly favors, I ran some consecutive tests. On testmy.net my download result was 74.4Mbps. Right after that I used the standalone, installed version of Ookla on my Mac where I got 92Mbps, followed byspeedsmart.net with 93.3Mbps. Last one done was Cox' current one, where I clocked a surprising 109.8Mbps/12Ms ping from the New OrleansCox server (I'm in Baton Rouge). All of the tests were done via 5Ghz WiFi. The difference between the previous Cox version and today's is most favorably striking. Bravo! All that remains now is to get into the habit of continuing to utilize Cox' speed test, where (and for this I've got my fingers crossed) somebody at Cox may take notice that the results are woefully short of advertised Cox Ultimate claims. New "Improved" Cox Speed Test I applaud Cox for its effort in reworking their previous online speed test. Still based on Ookla's engine, I found it more responsive than its predecessor. It also displayed a download speed more consistent with what I'm paying for with Cox Ultimate. Now comes the "However" part (you *knew* this was coming, right?) There are still two versions of Cox Speed Test: one which requires Adobe Flash to be installed on the host computer, the other does not. As it is my own personal choice *not* to have Flash installed, the results shown are from the non-Flash test site. I conducted two separate tests, both using 5Ghz WiFi; the first one using Cox' non-Flash, the other test was conducted immediately afterward with an installed, stand-alone Ookla app version on a Windows 7 desktop. (Repeated attempts to include a resized image to this post were unsuccessful. Instead I have opted to include a link to imgur.com, where the image may best be viewed) https://imgur.com/a/6mW40 As you can see, the Cox results reflect a higher ping rate than the Ookla one. This may be the consequence of a more distant server (in this case, Atlanta). Unlike the Ookla app test, using the Cox test does not currently allow a user to choose a more local server. You may also notice a significant difference in the download total, where, using the Ookla app I get 45% better download. To recap I again say 'bravo' to Cox for responding to address an issue which many subscribers have voiced their concern about. While I don't wish to suggest or infer 'back to the drawing board', this version of speed test defintely has the potential to be even better and more useful. Re: iHeartRadio app - Your music, your way - what's the deal? The steps on how to access and use iHeartRadio are appreciated, Becky. Thanks. I also read today that iHeartRadio is filing for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. With that in mind as well as the knowledge that iHeartRadio uses my monthly data I think I'll stick with Cox' Music Choice and Pandaora on my Roku. iHeartRadio app - Your music, your way - what's the deal? Among other notifications and advertisements in an email I got yesterday from Cox was one about iHeartRadio. Thinking it might be a bit like the Pandora station I have added to my Roku and curious about it I clicked on the link. Now, one would presume by that action that additional information about this app would be provided, such as music genres, whether or not the app would use any of my monthly data, which platforms it works on (mobile or Contour 2 box), what degree of "FREE" it is to the user and more importantly, the hows and wheres to set up and add the app to my Contour. But no. The link brought me to a Cox Troubleshooting page. In all fairness there was on that Troubleshooting page a link to Recover or create an account by visiting iHeartRadio at https://help.iheart.com/hc/en-us but even there I saw no instructions for how to set up an account, whether the app was meant to be used with Cox Contour 2 or an external streaming device, or any costs involved in utilizing the app. The iHeartRadio app on Contour allows you to search for your favorite radio stations or find a new favorite from more than 800 live radio stations. Unable to change DVR future recording times for all remaining episodes Sunday evenings seem to be the one day of the week where most of our favorite programs are broadcast. As our plan is the basic, bare bones DVR service we are limited to two simultaneous recordings which, for Sundays, inevitably means altering the times of one or two programs in order to avoid conflicts in recording, requiring re-scheduling of series previously set to record at first-available aired specific times. However, having once selected a preferred later time for a series and choosing "All Episodes", only the first instance of the broadcast date is changed, and not the remaining episodes, because as the Contour menu choices are now set up there is no option for altering the channel. This has been verified while checking in the "Scheduled" mode, where only the initial individual episode/movie has been changed; all remaining episodes remain at their originally scheduled time and channel. Most all shows and movies on HBO, Showtime, Starz, Epix or Cinemax are rebroadcasted many times within a seven day period on more than a few of their respective channels. It would be a huge benefit to Cox customers, who by the nature and built-in limitations of only two simultaneous recordings, might be able to successfully toggle future recordings without the additional need to duplicate their efforts every week for each and every program/movie so as to avoid recording conflicts.
