Your problem sounds identical to mine, they also upgraded my plan from 100 to 150 and I went back to check those dates it happened and it was about the exact time I started getting packet loss. It's insane what cox is doing, they are literally over subscribing everywhere, causing the nodes to be at 100% usage even in non peak hours. Why they would make this worse and upgrade people when they can't even handle it. Big yikes. But happy to note I am now on centurylink fiber and zero packet loss with zero ping spikes. Re: High Ping & Packet Loss - Confirmed Cox is Throttling Yes, they have to send out an outside line guy. The normal techs they send to your house wont be able to tell if the node is over subscribed. They have to go out to the node manually and check. The way I got them to do this was to get to a tier 2 phone support rep. They have a better understanding and can schedule a line tech to check the node. The normal support reps are clueless and will send a normal tech, these guys literally only no how to plug in a modem. In terms of the health test, its open source, its not paid nor is an account needed? I'm not sure why yours would be different. Re: packet loss all the time. Tell them to stop sending techs. The supervisor that came to my house the last time literally told me the techs don't have the knowledge to detect and fix packet loss. What you need to tell them is to check the node you are on and see if it's over subscribed (at 100% usage). This requires them sending out an outside line guy. Re: High Ping & Packet Loss - Confirmed Cox is Throttling Wow, the fact that Century Link doesn't over subscribe is impressive. I bet most of the issues Cox is having is with over subscribing which fk's everyone. Like the node I was on with Cox was at 100% usages at 8:30am on a Sunday!!!! Gosh I'm so glad I switched, I haven't had a single ping spike since. It actually is weird playing games now after having major packet loss every minute for 2 months. Re: Packet Loss When Playing BFV Yup and they will just string you along and never fix the issue. The only fix is a new ISP Re: High Ping & Packet Loss - Confirmed Cox is Throttling Email for what? I already know you guys were never going to fix the issue. I even was talking to a cox guy on the phone who lives in Vegas and even admitted to me Cox has major issues in parts of Vegas and you guys haven't been able to fix it for a long time. I'm so glad I finally switched from Cox to centurylink. I finally have a stable ping!!!! First time in over two months with no packet loss, amazing. Seriously, those that live in Vegas and think Cox is the only option, please look into centurylink. They are rolling out fiber all over Vegas and its pretty cheap. Re: High Ping & Packet Loss - Confirmed Cox is Throttling The problem is even though you upgraded your plan, you're still on the same line/node that's probably having the issue. I still have Cox for another day and they still haven't fixed my line. The supervisor was supposed to call me within a week and it never happened. Re: High Ping & Packet Loss - Confirmed Cox is Throttling The case was already referred to your maintenance team a week ago. I was supposed to get a call this week with an update and was told it would be fixed within a week. It's not fixed and of course I got no call. It doesn't matter at this point as Century Link is coming out next week to install fiber internet for me. I'm tired of everyone at Cox just stringing me a long, not having stable internet for over 2 months is ridiculous. Over this time I have not been able to play any games. And what does Cox offer me for my troubles? $25 rebate!!! Hahahaha Re: STILL GETTING PACKET LOSS AFTER IT WAS "FIXED" To further this, when I play a game thats hosted on AWSand get packet loss, I will also have packet loss on Discord at the exact time. That's two different servers having packet loss at the exact same time, AWS/Google cloud. The packet loss is real and it's a cox issue. Re: STILL GETTING PACKET LOSS AFTER IT WAS "FIXED" I have the same issue with packet loss on Google Cloud Server, not just AWS, in fact it happens with any server. I read your post and I don't fully agree that's the problem, here's why: If you research this issue, people have been reporting major packet loss in games for over a year with cox. Most of the threads will all say the same thing, like they had been using cox for awhile and no problems, then all of a sudden they start getting hit with major packet loss. Then they will report they have the issue everyday and nothing can be done to fix it. If it was as simple as the way they reorder packets, then why aren't people having this issue from day one when they sign up for cox? Why are people reporting it starting a much different time frames (1 year ago, 6 months ago, 2 months ago)? Why did I have perfect ping the first 4 months I had cox (30-40 stable ping), now the last two months I have had major packet loss every single day and my in game ping won't go below 80? Your telling me they switched internal equipment in the last two months? I don't buy it. I'm not saying there may be some truth to what you say, but there is no way thats the main issue for most people. The time frames don't support this theory.
