I’m having issues with my cable box and was told we would have to go to the store to get it switched out for a new one. Is there any way I wouldn’t have to go to the store to get it switched?

OP can also locally reset the cable-box via a feature within Contour.
If a user presses the A button on the remote, there's a Restart (reboot) or System Refresh option.
I thought the local reset is different then a reset from the headend.
I think a local "reset" is a reboot. You're right about the term reset as to reset the network configuration between a headend and device.
"System Refresh" may be just sloppiness to mean Reset. Contour explains System Refresh as "Multi check process that can fix account and set top box problems." The words "account' and "multi check" leads me to think an actual reset.
if by headend you mean from cox, it will include updates if done by actual online tech, not just a refresh after signing into cox or automated refresh on phone!
