Data light on my Contour Box is a steady yellow, beginning yesterday. I reset it and it went off.Today when I turned it on it was back to yellow. This is reported on DSL Reports as well. What gives?
Changed panel light brightness. Light when out.
Hi Cee Robison, Some of us having already changed panel light brightness to get the same result, however in 24-48 hours after the change was made the yellow data light returned. Can you please let us know if your fix to make the yellow light go away is sustained over time?
Any results yet? The yellow light is still coming on daily when I use the power saver function the night before or at any time. I have it set to power down. I did try turning the power saver function off and the yellow light did not come on at all the next day. But, it does come on daily when I turn the TV on after it has powered down for the night or during the day after 4 hrs. Am still turning off the yellow light by going to device settings, device lights, power lights brightness. As soon as bring up power lights brightness the yellow light flicks and goes off. I don't have to change from 3 to off. Of course with power saver on the light comes back on any time I re-start the TV after power saver takes effect.

Serious question... why not just turn off power saver and turn the DVR on when you want to watch TV and manually turn it off when you are finished watching TV? If the yellow light only comes on after power saver is used, wouldn't that fix the yellow light issue? It may be personal preference, but what benefit does power saver really provide unless you just forget to turn the off the DVR? What am I missing?
Do you mean the contour cable box when you say DVR? Might try your suggestion and see what happens over the long term but will be using more power if I leave the contour cable box on all of the time( at least that is what Cox says.) Still wonder why this just started happening on Nov. 1 of this year. Never saw the yellow light(maybe it was on when the system was updating between 2 and 4 AM) before this. Wonder if it is a software problem?
It does appear to be a software issue and Cox will eventually fix it. When I suggested turning off power saver if it solves the yellow light issue, it was only until Cox fixes the software issue.
Yes, I meant the Contour cable box if it's not a DVR. As I said, it's a personal preference thing. If Contour 2 power saver actually reduces power usage, it could have some benefit. I have a Contour 1 DVR and "Power Manager" just turns the receiver off after it has been idle for four hours. Since I turn the cable receiver and TV on and off together by pressing and holding the power button while it cycles through devices, the only time "Power Manager" has ever been activated was when I was busy working on the computer. It displayed a message asking if I was still watching TV after I hadn't pressed a remote button for four hours.
Fortunately, both my Contour2 DVR's do not have any yellow lite, yet! CurtB suggestion on turning the power saver off (especially if it takes care of your lite) makes some sense. I believe the only way to turn the DVR off is the right side blue power button. I don't know of an off on the remote. Not sure how much electricity gets saved by having it off.
If you program the DVR for all hours of the day recording, then it could create an issue. The cycling of the brightness of the buttons, seemed to work for some, but the problems came back. I believe that COX has implied that they are working on the lite issue. Surprising how many, and probably across the country get affected. I'm here in SoCal, and I'm fine with my 2 DVR's....for now!
@marv6 After doing a bit of research, I now see that Contour 1 "Power Manager" and Contour 2 "Power Saver" are very different.
The Contour 1 remote has a power button than will power down the receiver and turn off the TV when it is pressed and held down to cycle through all devices. "Power Manager" powers down the receiver if it has been idle for four hours.
Apparently, the Contour 2 remote doesn't have a power button to turn off the receiver. "Power Saver" is what powers down the receiver when the TV is turned off. So, turning off Contour 2 "Power Saver" isn't a realistic option to get rid of your yellow light.
