Data light on my Contour Box is a steady yellow, beginning yesterday. I reset it and it went off.Today when I turned it on it was back to yellow. This is reported on DSL Reports as well. What gives?
I finally got my amber/yellow "data" light to turn off (after weeks of failed attempts) by cycling through the settings for the power button light in Settings->Device Settings->Device Lights.
Cycle the Power Lights Brightness setting from your current setting through Off and then back to desired setting. This forced the Remote, Data, and Record lights all to cycle/blink with each setting change...and the Data light subsequently stayed off.
Worked for me (somehow), hope this helps!
Thank you for your proposed solution, I tried it yesterday, and worked. When I woke up this morning, guess what? The yellow light came back. We need help from Cox technical support to solve this persistent annoying problem. HELP
Lights off, no yellow light. Manually record show, no red light. Turn lights back on, red record light on, no yellow light AT THIS TIME. do not really know what this proves as the last time I turned lights off the yellow light went away, Then the yellow light came back in less than 24 hours. No more experimenting on my end, don’t like being a guinea pig. Cox tech support has the ball and must provide a sustained and tested fix for all affected users to resolve the dreaded distracting yellow light problem.

Larry, thank you for testing and reporting your results. I would have tested this myself if it had been possible for me to do so. It didn't occur to me that asking you to perform this test might make you feel uncomfortable. I really am sorry if it did. That wasn't my intention.
Cox had previously recommended people turn lights off completely, so we knew there was no risk that it would cause any harm. But, you had correctly surmised that the red recording light might be off too if lights were turned off completely, thereby preventing you from readily knowing when something is being recorded. Because of your testing, we all now know this to be true.
What your test proves is that the red recording light will not be on during recording when all lights have been turned off completely. Users who do so will no longer be able to know when something is being recorded, simply by viewing the front of the DVR That's useful information to know for anyone who might be considering Cox's suggestion to turn off all lights completely as an interim fix to the yellow light issue.
Yes, it is up to Cox to provide an actual fix to the yellow light issue for all affected users.
The yellow light returned back this morning. I believes this occurred after the Cox central office automated box reboot. Problem remains unresolved.
I'm not surprised. Other users reported that the yellow light came back on the next day after cycling all lights off and back on. Until Cox figures it out and applies a software patch, your best tool for a fix to this issue is still a piece of black tape over the yellow light.
My yellow light has been on for over a week too. It would seem that all of us Cox Contour customers have the same "issue". I have concluded that there is one of two possibilities for this light being on. 1) This is a psychological experiment designed to determine to what lengths we will go when this "new" light suddenly appears though no other symptoms are obvious. 2) A camera hidden in the box's front panel has been activated. It is illegal to activate a camera without giving notice - hence the light next to your laptop camera - so this light has been activated to signal that a camera is watching and possibly recording our every move. Please note that my comments are for entertainment purposes only and serve no other purpose than to lighten the mood and distract us, if for only a moment, from that dang yellow light.
So Kevin, it has been a week since you last reported status and one month since this issue was identified to Cox. What is taking so long to resolve the yellow data light phenomenon?
Best Regards, Larry
Thanks Kevin. I was just about to report the same status. It seems our numbers are growing too.
Oops - meant to say "Thanks Larry." Thanks to both.
