Greetings,
I have Cox cable at home and the TV works well with my TiVo device and cable card. For my study, I jus tuse the web browser.
However there is no sound for some channels. TNT, Paramount, WGN for example have video but no sound. I have cleared the cache and reset the browsers and rebooted....al the tech stuff. Still no sound. Funny though, that when I access TV Go on the same network (as if I were not home) the sound and video are just fine.
I contacted Cox and they had me go through all the troubleshooting as if it were my system but nothing. They then said that they will submit a ticket. Well that ticket is in the proverbial black box of purgatory.. No more from Cox.
When I use my Contour App on my phone the video is choppy or stuck and no sound. for the same channels. There is something clearly wrong with the signal being sent for certain channels.
Anybody else have the same issues?
Thank you.
Sal
It's on their end but until one of their techs tries watching TNT on their phone you will get nothing but run-around.
On both my mobile apps and desktop browsers i will get no sound on specific channels. And it started a month or less ago. And i have not updated my mobile Contour app in that time.
However, i did get the audio back half the time when visiting the SAP settings and choosing either espanol or video description, whichever happens to be available.

I tested https://watchtv.cox.com on my desktop using Chrome. The video and sound worked for every channel I tested... CNN, TNT, Paramount, WGN. I don't have the Contour app installed. Is there anything about the app that could possibly affect an individual's account settings on a Cox server in a way that would alter performance when accessing the website with a desktop browser?
Also, just to eliminate possibilities, did you verify that neither the website's sound or your computer were muted when viewing channels with no sound?
CurtB...for COX, at least things keep changing.
1. I never noticed the auto-hide, and the fact that it either stays on or at times does disappear. Hard to control. Tried flipping back and forth.
2. the "X, again I never saw the channel remaining highlighted. I always tended to use the 'X at the top rt, which never showed the original station.
3. so difficult to answers all the users. I know that the "S or SAP toggle works. I did notice that the GEAR setting has something for SAP Language setting. Maybe those that tried 's and got Spanish, should check if English is chosen or Spanish. Since each Market is different, COX has their hands full. They have never explained what they do with this issue and why it occurs only on a selected channels and not the whole set.
In my market, Fox Sports Southwest has no audio when SAP is OFF. Audio in English is restored when SAP is toggled ON. I reported this to Cox with an email to cox.help@cox.com. The first time I selected FSSW today, there was no audio until I toggled SAP ON to get audio. Later, after reloading the website, I noticed something different. When I selected FSSW, SAP was automatically toggled ON and it had audio in English. I exiited the channel and selected FSSW again. This time audio was ON without the automatic SAP selection because SAP was already ON. I then selected another channel where SAP doesn't have to be ON for audio and SAP was automatically toggled OFF. When I exited that channel and selected it again, audio was ON in English without the automatic SAP selection because SAP was already OFF.
It appears Cox is workimg on a patch to correct the audio issue by auto-selecting the appropriate SAP setting (On/OFF) on a channel by channel basis.
However, a little testing has determined it isn't foolproof... at least not yet. I just changed to a Spanish SAP channel while SAP was ON and it didn't automatically toggle SAP OFF. I recycled the exact same sequence a few minutes later and it did the SAP auto-select correctly. So, work in progress I guess.
CurtB...it's gettting harder to reply to this thread and subject. Had to "load more" to find some of these buried great comments...I don't want to miss any new revelations.
I think I did notice this SAP staying on in that past couple of tests. Why Cox bothers with each of these small tweaks, it makes it so hard for all the markets to discuss the problem. There has to be something very basic that is wrong. Just fix it for those that require it so that this thread can be closed. The SAP slider or the keyboard s and all your other ? shortcuts Do work. Changing the SAP language to all English using the Gear settings does also make sense. Users in the different failed markets must complain to Cox, but boy is it getting tough to find all the great replies.
To find the most recent comment, select the "Latest" link (far right) rather than the subject link.
Changing the language to English in settings doesn't accomplish anything. The first time you toggle SAP ON, the language selection in settings gets changed back to Espanol.
Sorry CurtB, I'm blind because I do not see the 'latest link or the 'subject link. I just see, when I log on, all the forum items that I have not looked at are bold. I go in and scroll down till I see a date/time that is recent. In long forums, I need to 'load more' to get additional fills...maybe I have something blocked out on my rt side of the screen,
As to SAP, I have never remembered getting Spanish when I toggle. I assumed that since the Gear Language was set to English, this was the cause...others were also getting Spanish too.

I have no idea what you're saying here. If you toggle SAP ON and click the gear and select Language, I think you will see Espanol is selected.
If SAP is ON and you select a a Spanish SAP channel, the audio will be in Spanish.
On the "Recent Posts" page, you may change the filter to "Unread questions and discussions" and only threads containing comments you haven't read will be displayed.
If you change your sort to "By date" and "Descending" it will allow you to identify at a glance when the most recent comment was posted and will allow you to view that comment with just a single click.
On the far right of each displayed thread, you will see "Latest" followed by "a few seconds ago" or "5 minutes ago" or "1 hour ago", etc. Click on that link to view the most recently posted comment. However, if you aren't sure there has only been one comment posted since you last read comments for this thread, you should probably do what you've been doing.
I have no idea what you're saying here. If you toggle SAP ON and click on the gear and select Language, I think you'll see it's now set to Espanol even if you had previously set it to English
If SAP is toggled ON and you select a Spanish SAP channel, the audio will be in Spanish.
CurtB.......As to the SAP, I was just suggesting that maybe the Gear/Language toggle should be set to English. Mine seems to stay English even if bouncing around to the different channels. Don't know what happens when I go to a Spanish only channel, maybe get English. Mine does not seem to reset back.
1. I set the SAP language preference to English first thing.
2 Then I selected FSSW (channel that has no audio with SAP OFF). The SAP auto-select incorrectly turned SAP OFF and there was no audio.
3. I Toggled SAP ON and audio was restored to FSSW.
4, I then selected a different channel with audio that works properly and audio was on.
5. I then selected FSSW again and audio was on. So, SAP had to be manually toggled ON the first time a channel requiring SAP to be ON was selected, but not when it was selected again later.
6. A check of the language preference then confirmed that manually selecting SAP had reset the language preference to Espanol.
I tried each of your 6 items, abet with channel 7 ABC with no sound. My FSSW (bundesliga soccer had sound), must be the market. Item 5, yes the SAP was still on. Item 6 was also switched to Espanol....I've never seen this before. I have never had a station that had no sound, that turning SAP on, that turned to Spanish sound. Every time I get English sound that makes sound and/or the screen to start playing. I give up trying to understand...good thing I don't use, other than try to make weak comments.
