I have Cox cable at home and the TV works well with my TiVo device and cable card. For my study, I jus tuse the web browser.
However there is no sound for some channels. TNT, Paramount, WGN for example have video but no sound. I have cleared the cache and reset the browsers and rebooted....al the tech stuff. Still no sound. Funny though, that when I access TV Go on the same network (as if I were not home) the sound and video are just fine.
I contacted Cox and they had me go through all the troubleshooting as if it were my system but nothing. They then said that they will submit a ticket. Well that ticket is in the proverbial black box of purgatory.. No more from Cox.
When I use my Contour App on my phone the video is choppy or stuck and no sound. for the same channels. There is something clearly wrong with the signal being sent for certain channels.
Anybody else have the same issues?
Having the same problem in Phoenix. Worked with both Cox and Apple as Cox thought it might be my IPad that was causing the problem. Because my Ipad was still under warranty, Apple gave me a new IPad. Still the same problem, sound cuts out on random stations. I find I can go to the ToGo channels and get sound, but when I’m in my house using my iPad I lose sound on my regular channels.
Called Cox back after receiving new iPad. I was escalated to the next level of Tech Service after my IPad was swapped out, and a supervisor was going to call me but shockingly (yes, said with total sarcasm) no one has called. I just lose sound on more channels. Since I can’t get Cox to respond, looking like it’s time to move to a new provider.
KevinM2... so sad that this sound issue on watchtv.cox.com keeps popping up. I check a few of the previous broken ones, and at 6.30am, thurs, ABC(7) is still no sound and WGN(68) went back to no sound. The SAP slider or s shortcut does bring the sound back to this SoCal market. At least the temp shortcut fix Works!
I understand that channels are different for each market across the country,. What is the basic cause of why the odd behavior to just specific stations and why not all across the board? There must be a bit setting for each station in each of the different markets Why does something that works, now start failing? I do not use this viewing at all, but feel for those that use pads and pc's to view TV...SAD!
ekhawaii, did you ever have any audio or video issues when using Chrome with Adobe Flash Player allowed? Are you still prompted to allow Adobe Flash Player when using Chrome?
CurtB....yes the issue is still on for Chrome and Edge, as well as my default Mozilla. For me in SoCal, 7(ABC) no sound till SAP turned on. If you turn it off, the sound goes out. With 9(KCAL), screen is stuck and when SAP slider or "s", you need to wait till the screen resets first. Must toggle back an forth to get this to work, on all platforms.
For Chrome, and Edge, I still need to Enable Flash. Either by selecting the Lock symbol next to the URL, or selecting an activate box on the screen. Seems to have to do this all the time.
I'm a little tied of this item being not working for many of the users. Since I never use it on any platform, I'm not concerned other that read the forum and go and see if COX has addressed. I've had other channels that showed previous broken that are now OK, like Cnn, TNT, but others go back to fail, like WGN (68). I never get a broadbase explanation from Cox, just the standard open a ticket with an email. How does this benefit all the other readers, if they are going to just address specific emails..I'm not trying to poo-poo Cox, because I use all their 3 products, and get a lot of great mileage from all. I don't want to get on their bad side...but sometimes the answers are a little short.
ekhawaii, Cox typically doesn’t disclose the reason for issues like this, which further increases customers’ frustration. The watchtv.cox.com website is rarely updated with feature changes even though there are some navigational issues that have been discussed in this Forum. I asked you about Chrome and Adobe Flash Player because this is a change that Cox will have to make to prevent the website from relying on software that will no longer be supported when Adobe retires Flash Player at the end of 2020. Hopefully, Cox is working on the replacement. You indicated you still must allow Flash Player for Chrome. We’ll know this update has been implemented when that is no longer required. In the meantime, you will have to allow Flash Player with Chrome every time. Maybe Cox will include fixes to the navigational issues in that update as well.
It would be nice if Cox would just tell us why these issues are occurring. The fact they are happening in some markets and not others could make a suspicious person wonder if Cox is testing changes in selected markets.
Thanks CurtB for your insight as well as your Keyboard Shortcuts to the s(SAP), ?(all other shorcuts)...sure saved using the slider. The SAP does seem to work, most of the time. I haven't seen too many Spanish toggles, but an on/of and wait for the display restart seems to do the trick with getting sound back or getting the screen to unstick itself....at least for those few stations in my SoCal area. I'm assuming that users using the Apps on phones do also have some degree of success using SAP. Yes, Cox does not disclose their reasons. Also, that Flash Player issue at the end of 2020 is going to affect lots of media and viewing portals.
