Two step phone number porting

I would like to try cox phone service with a new number, just to see if I like it.  Can I transfer my existing number at a later date?  Is there an extra fee doing that?  I would keep the old service active while trying cox.  I currently use cox for internet & tv only.

    You can turn up Cox telephone service as NEW service, without porting your number, and then at a later date, you can talk to cox about porting your old number over to your current service.
