FYI to all those affected, seems Cox is offering free calls to Ukraine, Hungary, Romania, Poland, Bulgaria and Moldova. More info can be found in the article below.

If I can browse an eastern European website for free, why wouldn't a VoIP call be free?
If only all data was created equal. Long distance in the telephone world is still a thing and I think it's cool for Cox not to charge extra for those international calls.
Ooma is taxing you for specific landline service.
Regulatory Compliance Fee: This is not a government-mandated fee and will increase from time to time. This fee helps telecom companies recover costs associated with certain federal, state and/or local regulations for voice and video service.
Federal Universal Service Charge: The FCC mandates telecom companies contribute to this fund based on a percentage of quarterly revenues. The purpose of the fund is to extend telephone service into rural or low-income areas. Most telecom companies simply recoup this contribution by passing it to their subscribers in telephone bills.
State or Province: This is the state version of the Federal Universal Service Fund.
$6 still cheaper though.

Not just Ooma, but all telephone companies do it. Cox included. Seems the FCC collects the taxes.

I'm not picking on Ooma...just the concept to tax 'em like the FCC taxes telcoms.
Speaking of deceptive fees, looks like someone is pulling together a class action suit against Cox. This will probably get the thread locked. Hehe.

I didn't think Cox was the culprit but the sports networks. If a network airs regional sports, the network charges Cox...then Cox charges us. If anything, Cox should categorize these networks...perhaps as a Pak...and allow us to decide if want to pay the fees. Unless there is a collaborative scam between the 2 entities.
I think the main point was Cox was using the tax to raise prices even for people who had price locks.
In 2 years, Regional Sports Surcharge had fluxed twice.
On 14 Dec 2019, from $ 7.00 to $ 8.50 (+ $1.50, 21.43%)On 14 Jan 2021, from $ 8.50 to $ 10.00 (+ $ 1.50, 17.65%)
Broadcast Surcharge follows the same pattern.
