Problem with Cox land line, connected to Cisco modem DPQ3212. I cannot hear a ring tone
on only certain local numbers. Everything else works normally. The called party
phone rings normally, the phone is answered, and a normal conversation can be made.
This problem occurs consistently on about 5-10% of numbers I normally call. No help
rebooting modem. What's wrong?
The problem is not a dial tone - it's a missing RING tone. Meaning, after i dial there is total silence until someone answers the phone.
The problem is not intermittent - it is consistent on only a few specific phone numbers.
The phone is plugged into the back of the modem and is in a well-ventilated area.
As far as I can determine, the problem only occurs on 2 numbers, both Sprint cell phones - not used as land line numbers.
This brings up the question: Who generates the ring signal, Cox or Sprint?
Have you tried calling the numbers you can't on Cox from another carrier or cell phone besides Cox? Sounds like a Sprint switch issue.
I agree that this looks like an issue with the Sprint switching equipment. However, how can I get this fixed since we don't really know where the problem originates? I called your tech support 3 times and could not get answer.
I have also been trying to find another cox landline to see if I could duplicate the problem - no luck so far. It seems landlines are difficult to find nowadays.
Cox tech support tells me that the sim cards in the cell phones need to be replaced to fix this problem.
Awaiting new sim cards from Sprint.
