  I agree if the suggested upgrade will be a DOCSIS-eMTA because it'll still be a free loan. However, if Cox suggested upgrading to a DOCSIS-eMTA-Panoramic rental, I'd be leery of their "suggestion."

  It appears you didn't like my reply...perhaps too oversimplified. 8 × 4 would be suitable for 150 Mbps 16 × 4 for 300 Mbps 32 × 8 for 1 Gbps These aren't written in stone but an idea of modem to data...
