While Nomorobo has been great, it seems that robocallers have found a way to beat it. Twice this week, I have received 2 simultaneous dial attempts from a known robocaller (2 different numbers). Nomorobo zaps one, but the other one continues to ring through as a normal call would. Also has the same V(letters and numbers) on the name line of the Caller ID. So here we are promised a solution, and already the lowlife scum is beating it. Something has to be done to block multiple simultaneous dial attempts by known scammers
Do you know of a solution any other provider is using?
Nomo is a design flaw. Cox can't have 2 parallel (simultaneous) circuits for the call. There must be 1 circuit for the call: from Cox to Nomo then to your house. Nomo would need to set in the middle and be an in-line call-screening service.
To fix the current design during a call, Nomo would have to send a signal back to the Cox exchange to open the circuit (busy signal) while it screens the first call. After Nomo decides what to do (block or forward), send a second signal to close the circuit. Your phone can't wait for Nomo to decide while still connected to an active circuit.
Or, if you subscribe to Nomo, Cox can just keep the circuit open until it receives the go/no-go from Nomo. That way, Nomo could just send one signal instead of two.
I just want to get to the root cause as to why Cox sends 2 simultaneous calls to my landline from the same number (it shows up twice on my calls list). I can tell it’s going to be one of those calls when I hear the ringer start, go for a split second, then restart in what is almost an echo effect so the first ring is abnormally long.
Cox isn't sending 2 simultaneous calls on your landline. That's impossible. Phone calls are first come, first serve.
Cox is simultaneously sending 1 call on 2 different landlines: 1 line to your house and 1 line to Nomo. That's why your phone rings once if the call is blocked. Your phone rings, Nomo rings...and Nomo intercepts the call before the second ring.
Nomo is kinda virtually in your house. When you get a call, all phones ring. When 1 of the phones picks up, the others stop ringing. Nomo just happens to be the first to pick up. In reality, any of your phones could screen, pick up and disconnect before Nomo.
Cox is only relaying what it gets. The spammer is sequentially sending 2 calls.
The spammer is a computer and it's probably coded to dial your number...wait 1 ring...disconnect...redial. It's in the span of a few seconds. While Nomo processes the first attempt, there is probably a delay to lookup, intercept and "hang-up the phone." That's when the second call sneaks by within that delay. While processing the first call, Nomo probably doesn't realize you're getting another call.
Perhaps Nomo should assign more intercept "agents" while screening your calls.
Nomorobo is USELESS!!!!! 5 times in the last 3 days robocallers have sent 2 calls a split second apart with spoofed local numbers and Nomorobo has not blocked them. This is criminal harassment and I am about to bring in law enforcement if something is not done about a fix for this.
I am so frustrated. I have spent two nights on chat and they 'forgot' to tell me that they couldn't help me, I had to go to Nomorobo. Bottom line is that my Robo is set up correctly. I have verified it and so did Cox. Problem is it isn't working. No calls are blocked. I don't even know where to go for help. This is the biggest mess I've seen yet with Cox.
There is no one at the help desk. There is no place to get help that I have found.
