Hello,
I've Premier 200 account. Modem Arris SB6141, DOCSIS 3.0, 16x4 or 16x8 channels, 4 years old approximately. Router Orbi RBR20, new in May. 2 level house. I get 200 mbps, sometimes lower. Lately really slow. WFH through VPN, I get dropped periodically 2x/day. Before using RBR20, I was on Netgear Nighthawk router and got dropped 10-12x/day. So, big improvement. Do I need a new modem? If so, do I need DOCSIS 3.1 or stay with DOCSIS 3.0? Thinking Arris or Motorola modem, if need to buy one.
Also, what's Premier 200? It doesn't fit the current Internet plans (Preferred 150, Ultimate... etc).
Thank you.
Where do you live? If AZ or LA or somewhere with high congestion, a DOCSIS 3.1 modem can help with speed.
Yes, high congestion area. So, upgrading to DOCSIS 3.1 modem may increase or at least stabilize the speed at 200+? Right now, Friday 10 AM, desktop Speedtest.net download 223 Mbps, upload 10.36, ping 13 ms. Robi phone app download 233.38, upload 10.17 ping 8ms. I'm happy given what I get, just hate the periodic drops, so far not during conference calls, but WFH means lots of conference calls. If DOCSIS 3.1 will help, it would be worth the price. Any thoughts? Thanks.
I guess speed is not the issue. It's continuous connection/stability of connection is what I seek. However, if I get a speed boost even higher than 220 Mbps... Oh yeah, even better!
DOCSIS 3.1 won't increase the speed above what your getting now, but it will make the speed more consistent during high congestion times. Do you ever see you speed drop during peek time? Could be a bit overkill for Premier but if nothing else it gets you growing room.
During the day, during work time, I didn't really notice. During conference calls, I'm one of the first to see the slide being shared, so I figured I've faster speed than most, or quicker at clicking the unmute button. Evening is when I notice slow down. Right now it's 7:20 PM, Robi app download 223 Mbps, upload 9.93, ping 9 ms. Still solid. Of course I'm the only one online in the house just now, normally we'd have more online. I'm running through VPN as well, which should've slowed it down. It seems my current setup is working. I'll just save my money for now. I appreciate the discussion.
Thank you. Stay safe out there, nasty stuff around.
My modems seemed to die about every 4-5 years. I'll wait until this one is on near death before replacing it.
