So I subscribed to Gigablast, but am only getting about 250mbps down. I'm using the SB8200 modem. The signal levels look ok, however i get an extremely high number of corrected errors. Hundreds of millions after 30 minutes of resetting the modem. Looking up on how these errors are corrected, it would appear there are so many packets that need to be corrected, that it's bottlenecking my bandwidth trying to correct them. See image below.
Am I correct in this assessment?
It should also be noted that a tech came out and said he will be replacing the line to my apartment this week and see if that's the issue.
Just looking to get an opinion that may be more knowledgeable than mine.
Thanks
Signal levels look good. That channel is to communicate the D3.1 channels, and has a different modulation. I think I heard that growing pains of D3.1 coming out is correctables on the OFDM like seen here. It shouldn't be service effecting to the extent. Some minor latency maybe, but not 250Mbps.
Are you connecting direct to the modem? If so, what test are you using to test? I prefer DSLReports. Please paste the link of the results in he reply so I can fully review it.
Yes, I've hooked to the modem directly with the same results. The tech that came out also hooked his laptop with the same results, ruling out my router / computer. He also hooked up his little device that tests the speeds, and showed the coax port I am using being capable of 750mbps. So idk.
Here are the results http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/34473820 .
What's weird is I had ultimate before Gigablast, and was getting daily results of 350 down. When I went in to the cox solutions store and said I wanted Gigablast, he put in a work order and said just call with my modems (sb8200) mac and serial and I should be good. Before I even had a chance to buy the modem and call them, my speeds dropped. Which makes me think it's an account issue. But customer service swears everything on the account is Ok.
When running on speedtest.net to the cox server, it will boost to 500mbps for the first second or two, then throttle back down to 250-200 mbps for the rest of the test. Like cox thinks I'm still on ultimate.
Thanks for the help.
I would suggest taking the re-provision, just in case, when it's convenient.
If that doesn't work, make sure your using a CAT6 ethernet, or atleast a different CAT5e. The 200-250 cap is a odd one because it's past the 10/100 cap and but less then Ultimate.
If all else fails, do you have the old D3.0 modem you could try swapping to and see what speed you get there? If you get above 250Mbps on the old modem, then it would seem the D3.1 in your area isn't working correctly. If that is the case, your best bet is trying to talk to the local engineers, but that is easier said then done. I almost HOPE it's something else. From everything I can tell, correctables on the OFDM channel is normal. It had to do with migrating the old CMTS image(IOS?) to the new D3.1 system. It shouldn't be service effecting though. If it is, your the first of many who are about to complain.
