I have been experiencing high ping lately and I can not figure out why. Over the past month or so my ping has drastically dropped, it was at a high of 40-50, but now it is stuck at anywhere between 80-120 with constant spikes to anywhere between 300=400, and sometimes even reaching into the thousands. This has made it impossible to game and it has made using any other thing on the internet slow. I recently had a technician come to my house to see what the problem is, and he said the issue was just a bad connection. But whenever I use an Ethernet cable and plug my laptop into the modem, I end up with the same issues of around 100 ping with massive spikes. While checking my ping on speedtest.com it says that my ping is fine around 55, but when I go to fast.com my ping is at 110-120. I was wondering if there was anything anyone can do to help out or try and tell me what to do to fix the problem.
Can you post your signal levels? Also, can you post a tracert to google.com? My guess is ingress, which is common but very hard to track down. Only a supervisor, or someone with a meter, can climb the pole and scan for the problem.

Looking back through the thread, I think the main issue your seeing in games has to do with the gateway using a Intel Puma 6 CPU. To see how much your effected, try this test. Basically if you see any red dots in the graph, that's bad. It should be all green.
So I think either replacing the gateway with one that doesn't have have a Intel CPU like the Netgear C7500 or buy a separate modem and router like I suggested previously.

Oh, you sound very knowledgeable about this and I had seen you reply to everyone, there is no way to see if it is an actual cox guy replying though, looking through the threads I see no way to see if it is an actual verified cox support guy answering. But thank you, so what modem and router would you suggest?

As for which ones to by, there are lots of options depending on your budget, requirements, and how much work you want to put into it. My default answer is the Arris SB6183 and the Asus RT-AC68u. However if your on Ultimate or above you probably want to either go the Netgear CM600 or the Motorola MB8600 if your area has Gigablast(D3.1) available. The Asus RT-AC86u is the next step above for router, but above that you probably want to buy a wired router and seperate wifi Access points. If you go that route, Unifi is the best way to go. I would call Unifi the "Pro" way of doing it too. Let me know which of those interest you the most and I can give more info.
