VPN slows down internet speed

I work from a home office and connect to my company's server through a VPN.  I find when on the VPN the internet speed is very inconsistent resulting in poor connectivity affecting audio quality when calling through Microsoft Lync. Swapped out Cox provided router with a new Apple Time Capsule.  Personal laptop (Mac) runs fine on WIFI.

    With the Timecapsule you'll  likely have to disable IPv6 on the Internet connection for starters to make sure the connection doesn't become unstable.  If you're still having VPN problems after that you can also try setting the DNS servers the router uses to 68.105.29.12 and 68.105.29.13.
