Is there a way to mark e-mail as not spam?

Is there a way to mark E-mail in my Cox inbox as not spam?   I get newsletters from Consumer Reports and they're routinely marked a spam.   My spam settings are set to "no spam filtering" so I get the messages OK but the subject line is marked with "---SPAM---" which if nothing else, is a bit annoying.   It would be helpful to be able to mark the e-mail message as not spam and hope over time it would not be thought of as spam.

  • Well there is a "thumbs up" icon that will move mail marked as spam to your inbox but subsequent similar emails will still end up in your spam folder.  I believe that Cox's remedy for this is to have the customer manually forward each individual email to them instead of fixing the system issue with these email.

Not sure the criteria that marks emails as spam and otherwise puts them in the inbox though.  I've declined to use the spam service because of this type of thing.... I'd rather set up filters and have the messages sorted so when I launch Thunderbird I don't get them on my computer.

Most of my emailing is via webmail.  I download messages periodically though.

The messages aren't going to my spam folder because I have spam filtering turned off.  So they're in my inbox but marked with "---SPAM---" in the subject line.   Perhaps I'll start forwarding the E-mail messages to Cox.  I know spam filtering is complex but to have everything that Consumer Reports sends me marked as spam is a bit nutty.

    Thanks for replying.

The spam filter settings are common to all users. You can mark the items in question as not spam and if there enough similar reports the spam filters will adjust accordingly.

Chris:  How do I mark them as "not spam"?   I see a way to mark them as spam (they move to the spam folder) but not as "not spam" when they're in my Inbox.   Do I need to mark them as spam and then not spam?

  • @WaitingToRetire,

When an email is identified as spam, the subject line is altered to include --spam--. Sadly, this cannot be changed without editing the email. While changing your spam settings to none will deliver the email to your inbox, it will not remove the --spam-- insert to the subject line.

    Thanks,
