Emails are being deleted from webmail - Thunderbird is set to pop3

I have been using Cox webmail servers as a backup for my email.  I use Thunderbird V52.6.0 on my desktop (Windows XP Pro - yes old but it still works well).  I am not sure when this started but currently when I delete emails from Thunderbird's inbox and then delete them from the trash folder the emails are deleted on the Cox webmail servers.   I am supposed to have a trouble ticket on this but have not heard anything back as yet.  Settings on Thunderbird are as follows: POP email server, server name=pop.cox.net, port=995, connection security=SSL/TLS, authentication method=Normal Password.  Leave messages on server is checked along with the box "until I delete them".  This seems like a very serious issue involving the interface between Thunderbird and Cox webmail.  Since I have been using Thunderbird for many years I suspect that the issue is within Cox and their new and improved webmail.

Perhaps I'm not fully understanding the problem. If you have Thunderbird configured to leave copies of email on the server "until I delete them" the behavior you've described would be the expected behavior. This setting tells Thunderbird to remove items from the server when they are deleted from the Inbox and Trash folders. What behavior are you expecting to occur?
