WPA2 Vulnerabilities

It seems that Cox uses a special firmware for the Gigablast Netgear. At least that is what i have read. Will cox be patching the Vulnerability

  • @Major Payne

Cox is working with our WiFi vendors to get updates with fixes as soon as possible. Cox applies the updates automatically when available. Make sure that all of their WiFi devices (mobile phones, tablets, laptops) have the latest Operating System and security updates.

The WPA vurnability is not a cox issue, the vulnerability is on the device side that is 'using' wifi that needs to be secured.

"The main attack is against the 4-way handshake, and that does not exploit access points/routers, but instead targets clients, examples: smartphones, tablets, computers, etc"

  • The WiFI routers themselves need to be patched/secured also, not just the clients.  Your router is also a client to your ISP.

It was wpa-wpa2 encryption that was found out to be vulnerable. Wpa is the communication from your routers wifi to your devices connecting to it for wifi. That has nothing to do with the router connecting to your ISP. You get your internet via coax, your actual internet you get from cox has nothing to do with WPA whatsoever.

Infobunny, Yes it has to do with the routers, They are open to this attack also according to CERT VU 228519. These include Aruba, Cisco and MANY others. You can't fix one side and not the other. "An attacker within the wireless communications range of an affected AP and client " AP and Client. Even Netgear has actually released patches for the routers for this issue. How is this not a COX issue. MY router does not communicate with Netgear's Servers for updates. I have a special firmware supplied by COX on my router

AND yes I know that this only affects routers in Bridge Mode
