what is and isn't counted in the data plans

Can we get some clarification of what is and isn't counted in the data usage plans?

like is Cox on Demand when using a Tivo or Ipad counted or not?

  • Hi Andrew,

I have requested an update to the Data Plan and Usage article. Thanks for catching this!

  • Hi Andrew,

The following Cox-provided services do not count towards your monthly data plan:

    • Cox Digital Telephone services
    • Cox Homelife services
    • Time spent watching video accessed through the Contour/Contour 2 app
    • Watching Cox On Demand for TiVo

    Does this help?

This is absolutely ridiculous! In the age of streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, or Pandora you can not honestly expect to charge your customers data overages if they are using anything but a Cox Service??? Not to mention if you look at any current gen video game console they typically require a 50GB download install just to be able to initially play the game... Any modern household with children would be completely drowned with overage charges, are you really ready to lose an enormous chunk of your subscriber base over this?

yes exactly what I was looking for.  Becky can you please have the Tivo part added to the cox data usage page please?

Content managed by Cox included in the following Cox-provided services do not count toward data usage.

    • TV and On Demand content accessed in the Contour app while connected to Cox in-home WiFi
    • Cox Digital Telephone
    • Cox Homelife

Note: Third party content and content identified as Internet on receivers or TVGO in the Contour app may count toward data usage.

there is no mention of Tivo there

FYI Everyone has 1 Terabyte of data available from any Cox internet service. I have streaming video from another service and only used about 15% of my 1 terabyte data per month.

I have a whole family here that subscribes to 4 different streaming video services and some music services and it is used constantly, plus we are avid gamers and any time we buy a new game I have to download a 30GB+ day one patch to even play it... I got an e-mail alert that I went over basically $80 worth of data (8x 50GB blocks) and there is no way i'm going to pay that kind of fee just for USING the internet with Services that Cox does not brand and provide. I'm sorry, but in today's age there is no way that 1TB is enough unless you simply use it to check facebook and e-mail once a week.

I'm not certain I fully understand the context of what you're asking there. The DVR box operates independently from your data connection so it would not use any data traffic that is counted in your monthly allowance.

Just curious if when you recorded shows to the dvdr if that went against your data but you answered it thank you.
