what does this mean?

What does this really mean:  'Recording failed because the program could not be found in the guide'?  I always thought it meant the program got rescheduled or moved or preempted pr something.  'Lucifer' on fox did not record last night with this error but it was on at it's usual time as it is available in the on demand (which is where I will go to watch it).

I get several of these messages a month and am now concerned we are missing shows completely thinking that they got rescheduled.

So what does this really mean and why does it happen?

  • Hello,

This error message happens when the dvr does not see the proper guide information for the time that it was scheduled to record. Thus making the dvr think that the show was no longer scheduled to be on. If this happens a lot, then there could be an issue with the box updating the guide information properly. Are you noticing any issues with the guide?

    Thanks,

Ok- after more looking around, I finding there are other weird things schedule things  going on.

It is supposed to be recording four shows this coming Monday but in three cases the name of the show in the recording list is wrong!

Lucifer at 8am on channel 1010 is completely missing from the record list even though it is new.

Timeless should record at 9pm on channel 1012 but the record list says it going to record something called Asi Es la Vida

Conviction should record at 10pm on channel 1015 but the record list says it is going to record the Donna Reed Show

Mars should record at at 10pm on channel 1072 but the record list says it is going to record Best Friends Whenever

What the heck is going on?  Only MONDAY's are messed up.  How do I fix this and make sure it doesn’t happen again???

I have rebooted my box, but that didn’t change anything yet.

I am glad you posted this.  I currently have 6 of these "not found in guide" in my MISSED RECORDINGS list.  All 6 of the shows were on the guide.  I saw them on the guide at the time of recording.  If i have a show that i do not want to miss, i now record the HD and the SD (non-HD) channel at the same time.  One of the 2 will record.

How are you setting the recordings? Are you searching the guide, using the voice remote, or using the website?

I set these shows up as a series recording using the remote by finding them in the guide, recording only the new episodes.  The shows that started this season I set up weeks ago before the first episode.  Lucifer is in the second season so I had set that up over a year ago.

All shows were recording fine until this recent week when Lucifer did not record with that not found in guide error.  That's when I looked through the 'Scheduled Recordings' list and found those other shows to be recorded Monday with the screwed up names.

I have since fixed the screwed up names by deleting the series recording and re-creating them.

It is a bit disconcerting that I can't trust the scheduled series recordings anymore and that I have to constantly be checking on them to be sure they are correct.

When you setup the recordings weeks ago, was the title of show in the guide or were you looking at the OnDemand titles that were available?

I find the show in the guide exactly when and where it is supposed to be broadcast then set it up for series recording.  Everything recorded fine for weeks until last week when it got the names wrong.

  • Hi Miller50,

Since you recreated all of your series recordings, have you noticed other recording errors?

All of the rescheduled recordings worked fine, but there was one odd thing that showed up in the failed recordings section again.  It said it couldn't find some show called 'Cesar 911' that supposedly was on Monday night on Fox at 8pm.  That was the time slot and channel for 'Lucifer' which recorded fine.  No idea where this 'Cesar 911' came from- I never saw it in the scheduled recordings list.

I guess my concern is that it seems like that the online guide can screw up at anytime like this.  When I am home I can watch for it from now on but that won't work on vacation.

I have yet to see anyone comment about why this happens or what can be done to prevent it.

I apologize for the delay. We have to be able to duplicate the outcome in order to trouble shoot and find a resolution. This is why I'm asking specific questions. You state you set some recordings weeks back for a title that just started recently. The guide should only be going out 2 weeks in advanced but you could be getting the OnDemand title and I'm trying to see if this is causing your situation. Please let me know if you see any other discrepancies and I will be able to check here.
