Using IMAP server with Outlook - suddenly last night 2 of 3 mail boxes had all info disappear from server

Per Microsoft:

If the option to Leave a copy of the message on the server is missing in Outlook, it may be due to the type of email account you use. Of the most common types of email accounts, only POP3 accounts download the email to your computer.

If you have an IMAP, or HTTP (Gmail, Outlook.com etc.) account, mail is not generally stored on your computer. All email remains on the mail server until you delete it.

Anyone had this same issue?  I was not on the server last night deleting emails!

Thanks!

Are you only seeing old messages being removed from the Inbox or is it effecting other folders?

  • Similar problem- all of my emails I put into trash completely delete within 24 hours.  All back emails are completely gone.  I have contacted cox twice and apple once.   Apple has checked all of my settings and they say it is a cox issue.

If it's the trash items that are deleting this is actually not unexpected behavior. Our system regularly checks for trash items and cleans them out to conserve space. If you're not certain you want an item deleted permanently it may help to setup a folder to keep such items in .
